• Not gonna link to news or pics as it looks quite nasty, double decker bus has hit the Sainsburys in central Coventry today.

Thoughts with those affected, passengers or peds. :(

  • Police have charged the bus driver and his employers:

    http://www.cps.gov.uk/news/latest_news/bus-driver-charged-following-fatal-/

    That's unusual.

A CPS spokesperson said: "Today (24 July), the CPS has authorised West
Midlands Police to bring charges in relation to a fatal collision
involving a bus in Coventry on 3 October 2015.

"Bus driver Kailash Chander, 79, has been charged with two counts of
causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious
    injury by dangerous driving.

"Mr Chander's employer, Midland Red (South) Limited, has been charged
with two offences under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

  • So he was 77 and still working as a professional driver?!

  • I'd guess there was probably some unfitness (is that a word?) to drive which the employers should have been aware of, I wonder if there are more stringent rules on testing (by the company) over-65s or something or documents that needed to be in place.

  • Interesting development. Be interesting to see how it ends.
