  • A friend of mine is showing a bit of interest in bikes recently and wants to make his dad's bike fresh again.
As the bb is really old and loose, I recommended him to buy a new one but don't know which.
It seems to be the non-fluted Super Record on a Basso frame, so ITA JIS 112mm should do the job. But which bb to use? I'm pretty sure the bike would be porn material if restored properly (the last time I saw it was in high school about 6 years ago though) so I don't want him to use this ugly ass bb: https://www.bike-components.de/de/Campagnolo/Centaur-Innenlager-Vierkant-p10016/

Use the modern cartridge BB which is easy to fit and works well, because only a twat would comment on it outside of a museum. In a museum setting, Super Record should probably have the Ti axle and steel lined aluminium cups, but they won't have suddenly got better for being 30 years old and a NOS one would set you back more than the whole bike is worth.

The FAG-built AC-S has better visuals if you want to let aesthetics rule over function, and still works fine.
