  • So that means I am a terrible person...should have bought a 6L v8

  • Anyone here have experience being pulled over and done for removing their catalytic converter? Thinking about doing it and wondering if it could land me in any real trouble.

  • LOL I don't think anyone has been done for that but you won't pass an MOT.

  • broom-broom

  • Sweet, pops and bangs soon come.

  • Ah MOT isn't a problem, was just sort of wondering what the chances of getting pulled for roadside emissions are. Probably have sold it by the time next MOT is due, still want a WRXSTI when insurance allows.

It's an impreza so I guess it's fairly likely to get pulled.

  • Best question for a while that one.

  • Anyone on here ever owned an Alfa 147?

I'm in the market for a cheapish medium sized car with a bit of poke and been eyeing up some of the later facelift models. They're far more appealing to me than the alternative ford focus, vauxhall astra type school run boxes on offer within my budget. I'm well aware of thier reputation for having shitty electrics and being generally Italian in terms of build quality, but are they actually that terrible in reality?
Going to view a couple this week is there anything I should look out for?

  • I've been pulled over by an unmarked car while driving like a cunt and I just got a heavy telling off. I had a decat on that car and he wasn't even bothered about the car.

Actually I got pulled over another time for some wet sideways action and they told me off and one of them complimented my steering wheel...

Whenever I hear of traffic officers going over cars with a fine tooth comb is when there's massive camber, stretched tyres, or bumpers hanging off.

  • Rust and avoid a Selespeed gearbox. Probably more info to be had on an owner's forum or buying guide, but they're the 2 main things I know of.

  • Going to the wrong mot centre. You should see what I've had passed!

  • Saw this, they must think they're funny putting it up for that much and not even bothering to clean it. It's cool, but sort of misses the point of pumas (for me) which is I can crash it and not care, and also the Volvo is faster than I am capable of driving properly on track, so have gone back to basics with the puma. Body kit is wicked though.

  • Think I would care about crashing anything

  • Sorry, I meant not worrying that I wrote the family car off throwing it into the tyre wall/ gravel trap.

  • Isn't that intended for racing tho?

  • No insane camber for me but I'm probably gonna lower it a little, there's so much I wanna do to it but I also know I'll replace it soon so there's no point.

  • I would love to run a 500ps carbon racing Puma as a family car but I'm not sure the boot would fit a pram and a travel cot

  • It does in mine but then it has no interior.

  • I was talking about other people. I have a man. No questions asked kinda deal.

  • Rust in weird places, stupidspeed (avoid like plague) and you'll find all the manuals are really hard to change gear (the shift cables rot) and consequently gearboxes end up getting lunched as not been shifted right for years and years.

1.6 under powered, 2.0 more like it, they both use fuel the same from all accounts in the real world. 1.9 cdti fiat/GM unit is very good, but has the usual problems (injectors, swirl flaps nom nom nom).
147 GTA been on 'the list' for many years but doubt I'll ever get one, too many other cars

  • headgaskets on the GTA's....oh my headgaskets, headgaskets, headgaskets

  • I love how bent mot's still are.

  • Me too - fingers crossed!

  • Most modern cars will pass emissions test without the cat as ECU will compensate. But n/a Impreza may well be very loud without, like not good loud.

  • Forgot it was non turbo,I used to do some streeto BITD with a guy who had an n/a S14 and it was sooooo loud. Like difficult to stay covert when his car was so loud.
