Ride London 100

  • So I'm booked in to do the 46 as I waited for its ballot results before going for a charity spot at which time there were no 100mi spots left.
I remember where the courses split off last year, what's to stop me from just completing the 100mi feigning ignorance? Would my timing chip just put me down as a DNF ?

  • Should I have had some pack in the post for the Ride46? I've had sod all so far.

  • Yes, basically you just need to have received your magazine saying you're IN which came with a letter that you need to take to the Excel this week in order to collect the required bits and bobs

  • Really want to do this but haven't got a place. Is there any way of getting an 11th hour entry? Maybe from someone who cant make it for whatever reason?

  • Cheers. I've received a variety of emails and selected my wave and things but not had anything in the post. Guess I'll have to phone them.

  • If you're in the first wave around 6am then IMO just join the 100 mile. Who cares about your timing chip, that's why strava was invited!

  • Good point, sadly the 46 first wave is about 9am so I'd be pushing through a lot of slower riders, whereas the 46 joins up with some decently paced 100milers on their return leg.
I have another 100mi sportive later this year so might just do the 46 for what it is. If it's raining I definitely don't fancy entering surrey for he inevitable road closures.

  • If you're on the 46 it'll be almost impossible to do the 100. The loop is closed off and any riders not at that point before then will be directed on the 46 route.

  • Ah last year I made it to the cut off with ample time I'm sure as everybody disappeared, Persuasive arguement against would be the sheer number of people I'd need to overtake, no fun there.. will just have to aim for improving last years ranking

  • Guess I'll have to phone them.

Turns out phoning them isn't much use as there's a message saying they're not answering the phone, send an email instead.

  • The first year had a neutralized zone with the start mat down near the first tunnel. There were scores of riders waiting by the side of the road for friends/significant others. The last two years the timing mat was at the start. I assumed RL didn't like the idea of a 6 inch kerb across the road at 35mph which is the speed we approached it in year 1...

  • You could just join the 100 a couple of miles down the road from Stratford. Nobody will care of your rider number is slightly different.

You wouldn't get an official time; does that matter to you?

  • The rider number for the 46 was a different colour to the 100 last year - gold, I think. I'm sure you'll get some disapproving looks from people who think rules is more important than having a good day out on a bike but if you want to do the 100 I don't think anyone'll bikejack you for wearing the wrong colour number.

  • This collecting from Excel lark is a real ballache. A two hour round trip to squeeze in at some point. There are three of us doing it so one of us was going to go but you can only collect one extra set of documents...

  • It's such a crappy place to have to go. 0644 start, ugh.

  • It's such a crappy place to have to go.

Especially when you could have been to Roydon instead.

  • 06.44? Luxury. We have a team start at 05.44. That's a full minute before the official first start time.

  • 5:44? Luxury. In my day, we started at 4:44 at the latest.

  • Did @Oliver Schick just make a Hov joke?

  • I don't know, why don't you ask him?

  • (I have no idea what a Hov joke is.)

  • BBC is forecasting hail for the time I need to leave the house tomorrow morning. wtf?

  • Utter misery isn't it, I left there yesterday realising there was a closer DLR stop than I'd gotten off from, then found out that it was closed!
All of that inconvenience just to force you into an evans store.
Couldn't they just have a marquee at Olympic park?

  • Couldn't they just use the fucking post?
