6902 bearings (28x15x7) are 7mm deep and 6001 bearings (28x12x8) are 8mm so if you change bearing type you probably need some extra spacer/washer....Edit from the future: Converting to a 15mm axle is a bit more involved than I expected. The freehub body needs to be drilled out to 18mm. A novatec B freehub spacer is 15/17,5mm so needs a bigger hole.
So it is possible but needs to be modified with a more advanced tools (a drill press and maybe a step drill bit)
