Will be test driving our new Vango Pulsar 200 at a wedding this weekend. It's not the lightest but the pack size is smaller than expected and we really wanted a proper porch.

Tent is good, quick first pitch despite not reading instructions. Porch was even bigger than expected and should easily fit all the luggage and poss bikes too. Looks like it'll fit in an Anything Cage without the poles in the bag which is nice.
Pegs were fucking shit and made of cheese tho- bent half of them pushing them into a lush meadow. On that note- recommend me some pegs for all round use. Or do I need a few for hard and a few for soft ground?

If someone is quick, half price one in stock.

I only get a 22% discount when switching from GBP to NZD. Bastards!

Outrageous!

Chain reaction have been pulling this kind of bullshit for years, and we can see from the merger now wiggle is onboard with it. I queried it years ago and they responded that they price differently in different territories to reflect the wider pricing in that territory. So, somewhere like NZ has high overheads, small market, they will gouge. Wankers.

Capitalist fuckers. Thankfully I'm not really in the market for a tent unless something pops up cheap and local, although that isn't working out so well for a bike at the moment...
-
• #1288
In the market for something slightly bigger than my zypheros 2, but not as big as the my zypheros 3....
The 2 is a bit snug for 2 people really, even though it'll be sharing with my partner, I'm taking her on her first bike tour and I'd rather not spoil it by being cramped up inside if we get rain.
MSR Elixr is looking pretty good at the moment, any other alternatives? Shopping list is: 2 person, sub 3kg, smallish pack size, preferably 2 doors.

On the budget end of the Scale, I've got the Coleman Cobra 2, got it for my birthday and have had a couple of nights in it so far, it's good for 1 person, would work for a couple of friendly folk cyclocamping. I think the Cobra 3 would be a good shout for more space, it's a 3 man (read as 2 man), sub 3kg and has 2 doors, either that or the Vango Banshee 300 which is a similar design but a few more pennies.

Giving one of these Aliexpress shelters a try for light hiking. Will prob be using it for touring/bikepacking as well. Should be around 850g with ti/alu stakes and carbon pole/tripod/monopod as support. Can review it further when i receive it.

Yeah I did have a look, the weight and size looks decent for the money. Trying to work out if I could sit up in it (6ft).
I'm tempted to take the Zypheros 3 the more I think about it. In the bag it swamps a rear rack, but it may well pack smaller if I break it down more. only 1.5kg more and it's veritably palatial compared to most tents.

Do let us know, looks interesting.

• #1293
that looks good, would be interested to hear your thoughts once you've had a chance to try it out.

I'm close to 6ft and cannot sit up in the Cobra 2, this guy can sit up in the Cobra 3 tho.

As discussed earlier, ti stakes anchor about as well as candles in an unbaked cake.
Stay with alu. -

No inner/outer?

• #1297
I am 6 foot 2, have a cobra 3, can sit up in it easily and it is properly wind/water proof (survived a storm in Belgium last week that flattened another tent and ripped some bits off a caravan next to us.) it's quick to erect and you can pack the inner and outer into a 13l dry bag and compress it down to fit neatly on a rear rack. Not perfect but a decent tent.
See attached giant TM making coffee in the door way.

Actually a bit gutted i went for the 2 man now, 3 man would be ideal for my purposes I think, 2 man is a touch too small!

I'd like a new tent, spotted a Tarptent at Grinduro and it looked great, shame it collapsed and filled with water.

Super happy with our Vango Pulsar 200 after 2 weeks mostly wild camping in Scotland. Can put it up or down in less than 10mins even in wind. Sleeping area was plenty big enough for me and Liz. Packed down super small and think the massive porch justified a tiny bit more weight.
The only things to address are the fact that it's hard to tension the roof of the porch properly and that it did leak at the seams when it really chucked it down for like 12hrs straight.
Will add an extra guy rope tab at the apex of the porch pole to sort the sag and spend next weekend with some sealer taking care of all the seams.
Considering it was under £100 it's a 10/10 would bang again from me.

I like the durability of the Terra Nova/Wild Country. Not had any experience with Coleman though it seems like people on here like them...
