There was an excellent patisserie in Vars itself in 1997. Would stuff my face with their pastries again, if I could.

Col de Vars,
quite an uninspiring climbI have equally bleak memories of that one. I started the day unable to eat and had to tap out Izoard and Vars in 35 degree heat on just water. Grim.
Not as grim as the ghost town ski resort near the top of Vars though.

quite an uninspiring climb, hard work with no reward,
no epic view, just a closed ski resort, i can remember getting there
and no one was about, everything was shut, nothing, nada, nichts...
just a very long drag.... maybe i was just tired and hungry..
