  • I've sifted the soup with a ladle, no meat, but can't be sure of the stock, so am leaving it alone. Fruit usually isn't bad - melon, watermelon and various tinned stuff.

    I'm in a pretty basic hotel out towards the Iranian border now, breakfast was just a couple of bread rolls with a mini pot of jam and cream cheese (which I didn't eat, obviously).

  • Is the tea brewed in a two layer device?
    Overstrong/overlong brewed leaves in the upper 'teapot',
    simmering over a much larger vessel of hot water?

  • No idea, I don't drink tea, but a local has invited me out for tea tomorrow, so will try to find out...

  • Demolished a huge breakfast, multiple coffees and smoothies in Nourish, Inverness this morning after 4 days riding in northern Scotland with very slim pickings everywhere else.
    Seen so many awesome sheep and cows up here, shame the daft buggers can't just run around all over the shop not getting eaten.
    We did see a couple jump a fence and escape into a wheat field tho which was pretty cool.

  • little shout out for the health food shop in Leiston, Suffolk. After the dynamo camped in the area and this place knew what vegan was and had chilli and carrot cake to prove it. Good sustenance in an unexpected place

  • If anyone is ever around in Peckham, I run a small vegan cafe called 'Vegan Jesus' every Saturday at The Yard in Copeland Park. It's just a passion project for my partner and I but it'd be great to see some new faces around!

    Also planning on hitting up Nanabar in Shoreditch next week. Looks delicious.

  • What you doing out there? Anything secret and interesting?

  • Pleased how well this all worked out.

    Tofu and herb-stuffed deep-fried squash flowers, maple and adobo-glazed sweet potato, grilled marrow and lemon and garlic mayonnaise. Mostly home-grown too.

  • Just touristifying, certainly nothing secret, but really interesting, if not a culinary extravaganza. Haven't seen a westerner in days, which is generally the mark of a successful trip.

    Veganomicon seems to get a lot of use by my partner.

  • So, fruitarianism. Does anyone here adhere to it? Does anyone in the UK? What's the reasoning for it? Does anyone have a good resource or book to recommend as a starting point?

    I think I understand the logic of it, but I'd like to read more.

    Do fruitarianism adherents tend to be religious?

  • Haven't got a book recommendation I'm afraid, but there is a lot of motivation squit about fruitarianism. While some people use religion as a basis, others seem to adopt it in order to stick to a more naturalistic way of eating, whereby we go back to simply being gatherers, with no hunting involved. If your diet is 75% fruit, some people say that's enough to give yourself the label, but there's also 'fallen-only' fruitarianism, which I imagine being REALLY hard to stick to in the UK.

    I'm all for live and let live, so it's interesting to read about, but I have to wonder how much extra toilet paper would be needed to follow this path! We're going down the ethical veganism route now though, so I might just be spouting hipster nonsense!

  • Just watching "What the health"... had a good couple of months a year or so ago cutting out meat and reducing dairy then a change of job and discovering I'm highly allergic to soya products scuppered it. I've been eating less meat since but still too much, and too much cheese and milk

    Really want to cut out meat and dairy again because I'm suffering various side affects I'm certain are down to my diet choices.

    Can anyone recommend a source of some nice, filling, easy and tasty (packable/cold) lunch options and some good evening meals?

    Srsly. There's loads of options - have a gander on YouTube search vegan pack lunch or sonthing. Maybe check vegan restaurants and scale it down / adapt for your budget. There's a great dish that Cook Daily do called High Grade - I just take out the oil and ad more mushrooms / veg oyster sauce.

    Good luck with the transition - it's the best thing I've ever done.

    I highly recommend the edgy veg channel on YouTube for lunches/easy meals/vegan versions of old favourites. It was invaluable when we went full vegtard.

    Just finished our bike tour of Scotland with multiple courses of veg deliciousness courtesy of our chef host. Might go for breakfast as one of the many veggie places here in Edinburgh. It's been a dull couple of weeks gastronomically speaking...
