  • Seems it's a new forum favourite for me. Super rad!

  • Thank you very much mate, I'm pretty excited about this one. Hoping to get the other side painted in the next couple days. Now please tell me someone has a ratty campag track crank so I can finish this???

  • Nice project! Love a good rat. Re rust proofing - yes, linseed oil inside the frame will work. Bit messy and cures into a quite hard gunk in 1-2 weeks. Make sure you protect the BB threads with some grease. And rags soaked in the stuff can auto combust sometimes so soak in water. Fwiw I've used it to stop rust on lots of stuff including cars and it works great.

  • Hi russ, thanks very much bud, I feel like I'm going to fall in love with this one! Do you have any recommendations other than linseed oil to avoid the gunk? Cheers

  • The gunkiness is kind of the whole point. Just don't leave a pool of it in the bb shell for two weeks is all. My post makes it sound worse to use than it actually is ;)

  • My first resto track build was a Rossin, same as yours. It was tight with massive toe overlap.

    I like your rat!

  • Haha ok perfect, so just making sure I get it in all the drain holes and make sure I rotate the frame to coat the inside? Thanks for all the tips, really appreciated!

  • Thank you very much! I'm sure I came across a photo of your build when I was looking up ideas for this, that was a beautiful bike you had there mate!! Also, what bar tape is that? The gradient is really nice

  • Have the option of either of these cranks, what's everyone's opinions? The fluted ones are lovely, but too decorative for a slave? Thinking the 75s might look better beside the disc?

  • Thinking so, anyone have a compatible chainring? Wanting a big dish at the front so thinking 50t or above?

  • sub'd
    this is splendid
    +1 for SG75

  • Thank you bud! Pretty excited about this! so it looks like I just need a chainring, some chainring bolts and an old campag seatpost bolt. Does anyone have any of these they're willing to part with?? Got a little cash to spare after the cranks

  • I've got a 47T Silver Gebhardt - not really big enough for slaving!

  • Black SG75 or DA chainring would be rad.

  • Aww, that'd have been perfect as well, but I'm considering almost comically big, like 56x19 or 52x17..?

  • Your lbs should be able to sort you with a seatpost binder bolt. Personally I wouldn't care whether it's campa or not on a non-period correct build. Regarding the chainring, make sure you have enough chainstay clearance.

  • Fair enough.
I run 54 x 20, works pretty well in the hills and looks slave too

  • Nice! That'd look really good I bet! That's good for skid patches as well, I know that's not the biggest deal, but unfortunately the disc is a tub so want to extend it's life as much as possible!

  • a 49t chainring is the one for skidpatches. 47t is good too. 47-18 or 49-18 are good around town gears.

  • Yeah I was kind of thinking the same, gutted I missed out on the black zen that appeared on the classifieds the other day..

  • I stopped in at my go to, but he didn't have any kicking about, going to try another couple close by and just take whatever fits! Good point on clearance though, is there a way I can measure that without it there?

  • Yeah spot on bud, just trying to think of a combo that'll allow the rear tire to last a bit longer and keeping the ratio to 2.9 or 3 as that seems to work for me

  • 47-16 then I guess

  • Brklz on tubs is a sign of commitment...
Do use glue tho. I've torn a couple of valves out with tape, but glue had been fine.
