  • Get some Polywatch...

  • Get a new watch.

  • what is that bottom one? absolutely love it. I would really like to buy a non-expensive diver (but also non-seik0) soon

aka spotter please whatsapp me when you find something of that description..

  • Who here recently posted a shot of their Helson diver?
I'm starting to consider the 42mm brass shark diver. It states in the site that it uses a Seiko movement which is fine. How do they hold up? Decent time keeping? The watch would be in the ocean on a weekly basis. My current citizen diver just ain't doing it for me.

The Helson seems to be great value at $349 us

  • Me probably.

Mine is bronze with titanium back and has ETA movement. Can't really comment on the brass Seiko versions.

Obviously I'd like to believe that 1/4 price means 1/4 quality but we all know that's not how watches work. There's a good chance that the brass Seiko ones are every bit as good as mine.

One thing for sure is brass doesn't patina up as nicely as marine bronze.

  • Ah, cheers. Bronze! I knew I missing a key detail.

Well, in a way the patina is a secondary thing. Mainly after reliable dive watch that's a bit different to all the stainless offerings.

  • A quick snoop around various watch forums indicate that the brass one is a good watch. I'd go for it if I were you. Helson don't sell shite.

Just remember to turn the bezel at least once a week...or not if you don't mind it seizing after a while. There is a reason that most dive watches are steel!

  • Hi all, Just seen this on eBay and hoping someone here knows something about this watch / brand before I purchase. Is it worth £450 ?

  • Cool, thanks for having a snoop around.
I'm constantly turning my bezel. No chance it'd seize up.

Now, to find a way to hide the potential purchase... It's not exactly a small watch...

  • hide the potential purchase?!?!

    oh dear...

    Ask Stonehedge again ;-)

  • I was just considering the same problem. Just about to order a watch in to collect at T5 when I pass through in a few weeks, wondering how to justify it.

The thing is, I say that I'm justifying it to Jana but in reality she'd be totally cool with whatever I did with my money and I actually just need to justify it to myself. I mean, the money would be better spent paying off the mortgage...can't really argue with that.

  • I totally understand! I know she would be as you're responsible.

My issue is, there are loads of cool cheaper watches, IE the Casio oceANUS. But we're told we should actually save up to get the better marque.

Also, does one sell one to make way for another? Or does one sell 10 to make way for that one?

What is it you're looking at? And why through T5?

  • Who here hasn't said to their partner when faced with the question "Is that a new watch?" said "No, it's an old one..."

Which technically when you're buying secondhand is true.

  • Speedy mk2 bi-colour, Sub bi-colour, Tudor Black Bay Bi-colour.

Can you tell I've got a hankering for a bi-colour watch?

I'm working in Toronto for a few days and won't have time to visit any shops before then.

  • The choices:

  • The girlfriend doesn't seem to care, but I'm not paying megabucks... the other day I saw my dad and he said "you change watches more often than your underwear".

  • I prefer the Tudor

  • Speedy. The Rolex and the Tudor are just too 'provincial scrap dealer'

  • I don't really care about what other people associate a watch with as long as I like it.

I'm thinking speedy too. I do love the Tudor though and it is less than half the price...

  • It's the crown that gets me. That, and the chunky hands.

  • Speedy.
Then sell it to me at an obscene loss.

  • this.... Speedy

  • Quite liking the look of that brass Helson for the price. Are there any UK distributors, would prefer not to get hit with import duty, etc.

  • No, shipped from Hong Kong only.

I have had to pay duty on all five watches I have bought from Helson.

Don't be a tax dodger, pay your dues ;)

  • Simplicity of the Tudor has its appeal but go lex for originality and bankability.
