Everyone who recommended the Metro games - is it worth pushing through the bullshit difficulty spikes and arbitrary arena fights in Last Light?

I got pissed off with the bear type thing and cubs. I killed the bear thing, but ran out of ammo trying to kill the little ones. The path never opened for me

Just got through the swamp and into the catacombs. The boss fights and survival mechanics feel really out of place tbh.

I enjoyed the first game, although felt that all the guns were shooting wet paper spitballs, so was playing through on Ranger mode this time. Found it fine up until this point and now it just feels really cheap. Feels a bit like Bioshock, whilst the second game might have better mechanics, its lost some of the spirit of the original

yeah it's not without its frustrations. arbitrary autosaves at points where you're moments away from death is a fucking shitter. maybe play it inbetween something slightly more forgiving. worth struggling on for the scripting and character acting. it's fantastic.

I very nearly died to the beastie outside the church because one of the little ones got away into the water, and the guys at the church could not shoot it, but also wouldn't kick the log back to me. Had to go grenade fishing and still almost ran out of time on my last filter

stock up on filters when you get a chance to buy them. weapon upgrades are mostly worthless because villains drop the same upgraded weapons.

Finally one of the few games I've actually played (I'm a sucker for a well-realised dystopian vision on sale). I can't remember which mode is which, but the bit you describe was definitely the hardest and most frustrating part of the game for me.

Yeah I think I will run from Venice again and do a few things differently.

and @chez_jay yeah its got a really nice vibe to it, just feel its getting a bit too supernatural at this point. Ranger mode turns off most of the UI and makes everything scarce, but increases all damage dealt, so the guns actually feel potent

dont forget you can use military rounds in your shooterz for xtra brap brapiness.

I definitely don't have time to play games right now but I'm definitely having so much fun with Doom. It's great. Very refreshing. Incredible with headphones - the audio (from the batshit and brilliantly cued music to the really visceral sfx) in particular is a treat. So much double-jump, mid-air strafing.

I can only play about 20 minutes at a time before my eyes go funny and my brain rage quits...

You can probably play CQC more quickly, but it'll still take a while to get any good. I expect. I'm still awful at that.

Oh, and @BleakRefs - the tutorial missions are apparently useful now.

Been playing Elite as much as I can lately. Soon a proud owner of a fully pimped Cobra Mk. III! Does not take too long to learn it -- it is not Eve Online.

I play with a game pad on PC. I do not own a HOTAS setup, would not have space for it, but the game pad (just a regular Xbox One controller) works like a charm.
