P.S. Top TT tip - don't do massive rear wheels skids on a Veloflex Record - @Cycliste's first puncture:

great pacing, completely the opposite of my 100, my excuse is that I got scared of blowing up and backed off after 60 miles!
p.s. that'll buff out!
-
• #16130
Wow, that's textbook pacing.
No power meter so I went out with a target, but settled in slightly slower and stuck to that. Broke it down into 20km blocks which left some pretty simple maths to help me distract me from the actual cycling bit. -

what happens with your entry fee if you are a reserve and don't get a ride?
I presume a fair few will drop out between now and then, so I'm hopeful but I'll struggle to justify the drive if I don't have a ride already confirmed...

- Any reserves that turn up on the day, and fail to get a ride, will have their FULL ENTRY FEE
reimbursed by the promoting club/organisation.
so guess I'd need to drive down there, spend £30+ on fuel to get my £30 entry back!

Is this for the National 25?

Reading 50 on Sunday, last TT of the year for me I think. Should manage a seasons best I think, but the 1:49:28 needed for a 25mph BAR might be a bit of an ask.

Just deleted another swathe of events from the spreadsheet. :S
I feel like I should throw in a token even at the end of the season, if only to justify the £££ hanging up doing nothing for a year. There's only a couple of 100s and 50s left. Guess I could have a crack at 25s to keep it short and sweet - at least I shouldn't have any saddle woes. Depends what state I'm in after TCR. Who wants some prime TT bike dust?
-
• #16136
I'm not racing next year. Is there any point in you entering anything this season? PBs unlikely?
-
• #16137
You're not racing next year for any particular reason?
I thought last year it was a basically a waste of time entering the 10 after I got back from TCR but then I took our club record so anything could happen. I'm just not sure of my motivation level for anything too long. I think it's physically possible for me to do just about anything but if it's not gonna be flat out then I'm kinda like 'why bother?'.
There's still some fast courses out there and my times are good enough to get me in so maybe I could just test myself out in a 25 and see how it goes. If it's good, do more, if shit, quit for the year?

I want to do different things - just don't feel as excited about TT this year, 12hr excepted. Really not bothered about the short stuff.
Year of audax and then maybe the 24 in 2019.

Ha, you're turning into an old man. It's coz I made going long sexy isn't it? Go on, admit it, old man hippy got you moist for the long distance world. :P
Yeah, I was all keen to have a crack at lowering my 25mi but didn't take the bike off the rack at all. Then TABR and TCR take up all my time and then I don't know.. looking at:
H10/181
R25/3H
H10/17R
A100/4
R100/8But could equally just spend the rest of the year getting pissed. Tempted to start some MTB training and race a solo 24hr mtb but that would then fuck me up for another crack at TABR. Decisions, decisions.

The only one you're going to make inroads on your 25 time is the R25/3....
The A100/4 I supposed to be a fast course, planning on trying to improve my 100 time further.
-
• #16141
You'll take an easy 10 minutes off if it's a good day. If it runs that is, still a bit up in the air that course.
-
• #16142
More like everyone is too fast at the short stuff now! Have to try the longer stuff where it's only old blokes and weirdos...

Fast 25s is slim pickings but there's an E2 on Sep 2nd. That's my current PB course.
Been over to Welsh course once before and it pissed it down. It'd be nice to ride it dry and with bigger gearing and fewer things going wrong but I'm not that interested in setting course PBs given the miles in my legs so maybe the 25 will have to wait.
Of course the A100/4 and the Breckland 50 are on the same day. Not sure I will have the motivation to ride the 100 quick although once again it'd be unknown territory after TCR.
There's the Welsh Champs 50 which is my old PB course and can be pretty quick. -
• #16144
Why would it not run?
It also pissed down there when I was riding a 50, I think.
-
• #16145
There was a South Pennine rider killed during a club 10 on that road which cast doubts on the future of the course. I think the 50 and 25 look like they're running however so maybe it's been resolved.

@wheels_of_fire is younger than me (I think - I am pretty weather beaten so sometimes it's hard to tell) and he seems quite normal.
-
• #16147
Was the course to blame for the fatality?
-
• #16148
No, but I don't think it;s the first death and you how kneejerk reactions can happen. As much as anything, it's whether promoters want to use the course.
-
• #16149
Loads older - big 40 this year in November.
But... "outwardly normal looking" - quote Michael Hutchinson 2017

ECCA 12 is new course this year,
1) Same first 85 miles on the E2 as above
2) Ride down towards Baldock and then do lengths of the A505 turning at Baldock, round the Royston bypass.
3) Eventually head back up to the d/c on to Newmarket and the new finishing circuit is the old circuit B, an undulating triangle outside Newmarket based at Six Mile Bottom.Hope this helps :)
Doubt it. My post-race pee didn't hurt, but by God it was a relief. I'd been busting for a piss since halfway through the second lap.
As far as I can see from my Strava data, dividing it up into 40km chunks, I did:
1:00:13
59:16
59:27
58:23
I was riding to power numbers though, which obviously helps with pacing.
