  • well done, Phil. did you see my mate Gaz behind you at all? he said that you were always a few places ahead of him in the league last year or the year before.

we must have passed each other near the ecology park but i was much slower than you.

then i had a very pleasant beer ride home, culminating with me getting on my bike and falling straight off the other side at 12.30am. luckily there weren't many people around to witness one of my less fine moments

  • Oof! Sounds like a good beer session.
I wasn't really aware of who was around me other than a few club mates I like to have a scrap with, not to mention MsPub who keeps me on my toes (16:32, first woman!)

I kept it to three pints of Fuller's ESB afterwards, then opted for the bus rather than running home. Unfortunately the chippie was already closed so I settled for chicken curry and egg fried rice from the Chinese. :)

  • in the back end of 2014 I did an alleycat style checkpoint race in manchester that was about 11 miles and about 6 crossfit challenges, 3 hill climb challenges and a sprint competition which ran from about 9pm -> 1am

we arrived about 2pm and went for food, I ate fully loaded bacon cheese fries, a 'shut up america' burger which was every thing american you can think to put in a burger with an oreo ice cream sandwich on a skewer stuck in the top and 2 pints.

how i survived that run I do not know. the worst was when it had finally been digested and was requesting I let it back out while running around full-tilt and completely lost in the middle of manchester at 11pm on a saturday night in running kit.

would probably do it again though (the meal that is, but also the race which was amazing fun).

  • SWRD event? Are they still going?

  • It was and yes they are.

  • Cool. Used to spot folks about in their T's but not seen any for ages.

  • Snowdonia: hilly innit. Bloody hell.

  • Snowdon race?

  • Got that next weekend!

Supported a (successful) Paddy Buckley attempt. Seven and a half hours out in the hills.

  • They're still knocking about. I think all the original founders ended up in london (and then one in germany) but a couple of guys I know from their little crew still organise things but it's probably on a slightly smaller scale. hoping to run into them at copenhagen half in a couple of months

  • my pile of kit for spitfire scramble is rapidly building in the corner of the living room, waiting on some printed running shirts to arrive and my ocado food delivery the day before and I should be all set.

whatever happens i am sure it will be a learning experience, just trying to avoid taking way too much stuff but not leaving the essentials at home, in my head i keep thinking "proper ultra runners wouldn't have half this stuff on their races" but this isn't a point to point race so a few creature comforts are the benefit of having to run the same course over and over I guess.

    Walking thread >>>>>>

  • at that pace I could finish my 24hr goal in under 6 hours.

  • Race plan sorted then, gives you 18hrs to cheer on the others!

  • would also give me a double championship qualifying time for next years london marathon which is nice i guess.

  • Nicer portaloos at the championship start, apparently. #willneverknowforsure

  • That sounds like a great weekend.

Do you hear about these attempts through your club or is there another forum out there?

  • there are more of them, not sure a portaloo can ever be nice.

  • This was a club mate. Not sure how word gets out for others - guess probably Facebook groups or FRA forum?

  • my shitty eldest twin has cracked the screen of my most precious possession in the world: My garmin fr630.

has anyone got experience of having the screen repaired?

on the positive side i've reduced my future pocket money bill by a few hundred quid

  • How was it?

I did parkrun this morning and a total lack of proper training since the London marathon came home to roost.

    Good luck today @HatBeard

  • Just got back from 5th lap (5.7miles) in 9:45 sitting about 25/30 in men's solo cat

No blisters but feet are just generally sore. Like I have been walking for 10 hours funnily enough.

To hit 11 laps overall I was meant to head out 5 mins ago but I have some wiggle room but tbh I am slowing down and need to take longer breaks so I think 8 or 9 laps is going to be more realistic.

For now I am committing the cardinal sin of laying down to completely get the weight off my feet for few minutes luckily the hellspawn of a neighbouring tent are playing bottle flipping about 3 cm from my tent at great volume so sleep is unlikely.

  • Also loving it btw

  • ^ sounds great, enjoy next laps. Is there a dot we can watch?

  • going to scotland in a week, week on the lash with EB then 6 races in the wildest terrain going , 6 days running.cant wait
