  • I'm not that fussed but i may buy a vostok amphibia to replace it

  • I was gonna dibs it but was too slow to the thread, so even more gutted it's been dropped now. Been looking at a lot of the amphibias, but not sure what dial I prefer.

  • Just took a look. They are shock-protected from what I can see.

Pop the back off and see if anything is knocking around loose, but particularly look at the hairspring to see off any of the coils are touching. It should look like a perfect spiral, apart from the very outer coil.

  • I'm away at the moment, I'll post some photos next week. Thanks!

  • I'm thinking the #420659:

And adding a Pepsi or turtle bezel

    To get something like this:

  • Good shout. Pretty much how I felt looking at the options, too.

I painted the bare bezel on the Stendardo (did an awful job), in black but I really want to go Pepsi.

The numbers on the 420659's dial are so big, I'd love something as simple as possible. Interested to see how it sits and feels if/when you buy it.

  • Idle looking at duel time watches.

How come GMT are so much more popular?

Are they just cheaper/easier because its just one cog at a different speed and it saves you thinking how to show day/night in the home time?

I always thought the shadow hour hand was the most elegant solution.

Anyone think of any work suitable sports watches in a more realistic price range?

  • Have to say that just looks fugly. imo.

Really losing complete understanding of PP and AP design.

  • Casio do a bunch of dual time sport watches...

  • @spotter ah easy come, easy go, hope it's a simple fix if you do bother tinkering.

Saw this sweet Olma diver in an article then went drunk on eBay and bought an old Deco piece for £17, apparently working but I don't have high expectations, just fell in love with the face.

  • albino ref.6542 obviously

  • You see I really like that 70s style of stuff - like the GO senator.

    Also this

and every time I look more at the little details I like PP. Even their rip off pilot is perfectly executed.

@Well_is_it - more waterproof steel than plastic sportswear. But I was looking at this

If money wasnt an object I'd actually like a Farer GMT.

But they seem to be too much for what they are and way over what I can afford for a fun watch that might be shit irl or end up sitting in a draw.

Styling wise it does have everything I like tho - '60/70s racing feel colours, trad steel sports watch case, Arabic numerals, midsize, syringe hands.

  • You know I was looking at variations on that theme. CW trident and Squale seem to come up on eBay. But it would be nicer to find something that's more its own watch - and importantly a duel time rather than just a 4th GMT hand.

  • Yeah, the 70's aesthetic has its charm.

Not really 70s but used to have one of these. World time in the digital window was very handy and it could store up to 30 phone numbers!

  • See that Casio A500WEA-1EF is just plain RAD.

    It's not even trying.

However the fillet bang between a rectangle and a circle that AP+PP seem transfixed on is just a horrible shape. End of.

  • It's a porthole.

    See.

Its basically the sevs’ equivalent of all those sailor tattoos people have now.

  • Yeah I know about the Royal Oak and how AP thought it was a good idea. I even looked up the exact vessel but found nothing close to that 'shape'. Interestingly it was not immediately welcomed and only after some paid off celebrity was seen wearing it did sales pick up. #trufax

  • Analogue has to be a circle imo.

  • So many fancy watches at the Air Tattoo today, and a Breitling tent/showroom. Didn't enter, queue was longer than to sit in a Tornado.

There were also on display something like RSC? Crazy money aviator stuff.

  • I'm curious, is it possible to get a case re-gold plated say sub £200? Properly done, not a diy electroplating bath...

  • Analogue has to be a circle imo.

    Nein!

  • I know you can get silver as a plating solution, not sure if gold is available. Probably cost a fortune to be done professionally. Get a sharpie

  • Shy of replacing a crystal/glass/plastic viewing window on a watch, how best does one remove scuffs and scratches?
I've used toothpaste in the past for smaller scuffs and it's worked ok, but something slightly deeper, what's the best idea?
It's for a Pulsar thing I have coming from evilbay, looks pretty battered but hoping it will clean up a bit.

  • You could try using some Autosol metal polish or even Brasso. I've used both before and they work well on glass, just be careful you don't end up polishing the rest of the watch!
