I love Kwiatkowksi. Such a great, versatile rider.

Awesome rider really, brilliant in the early season classics, hope he rides Flanders next year. You end up always compare him to Sagan, a different skill set perhaps but so fucking versatile, and rivals from Juniors on the road. Certainly capable of winning week-long stage races also, could he race for GTs even? If Thomas can so could he.

Didn't he finish 11th in the Tour when he was at QuickStep?

Looks like Uran got his from a Cannondale person (but not cannondale-drapac team person). Bennett took his from same group of spectators as Bardet.

I think Bardet would retain 3rd place, but only by 10 seconds, if he got the same penalty.

It seems he didn't get a penalty because the commissaires didn't see him take a drink from the bottle he took. He only thought about it, aka the Basso defence.

Is it controversial though? If no commissaires saw him drinking from the bottle, and there is no tv evidence, it would be harsh to penalise him. Most riders, when they take a bottle from the crowd, pour it over their head/neck to cool down with it, as they know drinking it runs the risk of contamination. That is probably what Bardet did.

Right year, wrong GT, it was the Giro. (Aru won the 2015 Vuelta, was runner up at the Giro).

From the ITV highlights, there appears to be footage of it.

And the implication is that if they (are witnessed) drinking from a bottle from the crowd then it's because they knew they could trust the bottle because it was actually an unofficial team handup, hence the penalty.

How true that is I've no idea.
