Boxing at this level is rarely about anything but money - this is just an exaggerated version...
McGregor has a chance, any boxer has a chance, but it's tiny. His sparring partners are saying he's relatively easy to hit and that he doesn't carry much of a punch. In videos he looks unconventional, and not in a particularly good way or one that's likely to trouble Mayweather. Unless he's massively deteriorated since being inactive, Floyd's way too quick and slick for a plodder.
And Mayweather's team, holding the upper hand in all the negotiations, have been canny in getting the weight, gloves, etc. that they want - because McGregor needs this payday more than Floyd, unless stories about the tax he owes are true.
The way I see it, Mayweather will carry McGregor for a few rounds to give the punters their money's worth, before dismantling him. Then again, Lloyd Honeyghan had "literally no chance" against Don Curry...
