Good thinking, I've been desperate to have my Straggler done in this colour since I first seen the new K.M photos.
Look forward to seeing how it would have looked.

Stella tastes like what came out when I popped a blister with my teeth.

I'm thinking Schwalbe Smart Sams might be the tyre for this. Look mean, and fit in the cc.

Where do you recommend getting quality powder coating done?
-
• #131
I live in Manchester, so I use Ashton Powder Coaters if that's any use to you. They actually did the orange which is currently on the bike.

Right, I want to ride this down to Arctangent festival so need to get going.
Frameset is in the lab ready to be lugged over to the powder coaters next week.Realised the headset needs replaces so will be looking for a quality & value for money jobbie - Cane Creek 40?
-
• #133
Absolutely recommend Cane Creek 40, use a proper tool for the crown race otherwise you'll ruin the seal
-
• #134
i have ruined a crown race on 40 by not using proper tool

We should start a club :)

Neither of the powder coaters I know of up here have the colour. Damn.

Found a supplier, will be calling the friendly one back on Monday and discussing them buying the colour in.
£24 for 1kg of the stuff, seems okay.

Will be interested to hear how this works out.
Not sure if a PCrer's equipment would be tailored to using a particular type or composition of powder/plastic. Worth an email to see if they'd be ok using it. -

Got a phone call arranged for when the manager is in on Monday, the guy I spoke to seemed to think it was a possibility, just a case of how much it'll cost me

Would cost an extra £60 for that specific colour, so I'm going to go for RAL 1033 instead, might be dropping it off tomorrow if I can get the headset out today!
-
• #142
I wonder why?
-
• #143
They don't have it in stock and would need to buy a 5 kg powder for it apparently. I'm sure it wouldn't use the full 5 kg so it's a bit frustrating that they'd make me pay for the whole thing
I don't mind though, RAL 1033 looks pretty sweet! Now I need to source a new decal set.
Edit: Keep Pedalling to the rescue! -

That sucks! Stockport PC said the same to me a few years ago (coincidentally how I discovered Ashton; they were the only local PCer with that grey powder I like [7000] in stock at the time). A bike will only use a few hundred grams of powder (EDIT: incl. wastage, still def. less than a kilo). Presumably, if the colour is similar to a more popular one they already have, they're unwilling to order 5kg of something they may not get another order for. Also, maybe their equipment is set up for 5kg buckets, i.e., that's the smallest (or only) size of container that can be used with their equipment (and they CBA dispensing 1kg into an empty bucket because cleaning/contamination/... They must have decided in the past that it's more hassle than it's worth).

Haha, like the new thread title

All seems reasonable to be fair, just wish it wasn't so!
This is the colour I've gone for:
2 week turn-around so I really need to get it there asap to get it built in time for the festival.

Very industrial, but at the same time kinda earthy. I like it!

• #148
A guy in my lab said 'it'll get dirty well' which I thought was fitting

Small update #2351 for the day: headset is out.
