  • Victoria St Junction with Buckingham Palace Road
  • Came back to office from site to find police exclusion zone on Junction Victoria St. with Buckingham Palace Road for bike under 8 wheel muck away lorry hope the rider survived.
Wish TfL would do something about the Victoria one way system all they have done is make it worse for cyclists and the Nova development is particularly to blame.

  • Just around the corner from my office.
I hope the rider is OK

  • Dreadful news!
Wishing the cyclist all the best.

  • This sounds bad. Extremely quick ambulance response time, but seemingly very bad injuries.

How has the Nova development contributed to making things worse, Adam?

  • Oliver as part of the development they have extended the pavement but done nothing about what was always a horrible junction for cyclists like installing a ASL. Immeadiately before the junction there is a bus lane and bus stops which is cut by this new pavement creating a trap for cyclists. This accident was designed to happen.

  • Please don't use the word accident.

  • 'An accident waiting to happen' is a turn of phrase it does not refer to the incident in particular I am not sure what the benefit is of contorting the language to a point where you can not express yourself is?
To re-phrase my original point the corner between Victoria St. and Buckingham Palace Road has been made excessively risky to cyclists using it by the introduction of a widened pavement built by and for the Nova Victoria development to encourage tourists and the general public to visit their Gastronopolis which is located in the middle of the Victoria giratory with no traffic free access. No provision at all has been made for the thousands of cyclists using this junction and it was predictable that a serious accident would happen at sometime to a cyclist using it.

  • I do agree that Victoria is a worstening nightmare and my thoughts are with this poor cyclist.
I was gratified to see that neither the ES or Met Police referred to this as an accident. They are learning (slowly) to use neutral language in the media - due to campaigning from BMJ, Roadpeace, Brake, British Cycling and the Road Death Reduction Forum. I just didn't expect to see it used here.
