Lovely thread, hadn't seen it before. 2 years later I'd like to express agreement with Sumo. I've only skimmed through the thread so far, has there been any discussion about the 'hollow earth'-ers and if they're at war with flat earthers which I like to hope?

If only it were that simple! Then it would just be about education. The problem is that these people consider these concepts a crucial part of their identity and their brain shuts down any attempt to challenge that aspect of them.
Would be really interesting to read some research that shows how these ideas become so entrenched in the first place though. Not enough taught about critical thinking at an early age? It gives them a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging within a group?
To be honest, I wish we could just ignore people like this and disregard them as dumb f****, but their actions do have an effect on the rest of us, and it can be a dangerous one (e.g. Current measle outbreaks).
