I want to do up an old trek mtb I got dead cheap on eBay, to use as a wet weather commuter/ FBNPA beater. Any recommendations for cheap/ decent in the wet 26" slicks (I think gumwalls would look great but not really necessary) and clip on mudguards? (Ideally silver). Looking to keep things as cheap as possible!

Cheers, I didn't know that but I still want to keep the original look so filing them off is not an option.

current vintage mtb project. Jamis Dakota competition picked up complete for $50. rear end looks a little bent but I'm gonna try to straighten it out as best I can. stoked on the roller brakes and fillet brazing. I think it's an '86. getting different motocross bars as the clamp is 7/8ths.

A great choice if you are selling a bike but want to keep the nice tyres you have on it :)

Ha! Well played, make sure you use your special bike knowledge powers for good and not to convince people to mutilate their innocent starfish ;)

they're bloody good! I've done thousands of km on them, in all conditions, and don't really have any complaints, especially considering price. kojak's get punctures like mad

Have we ever spoken or have you just seen my grumpy tired face wobbling up the hill?

Found this rust bucket dumped by some bins in Camberwell, as it's a GT and I think they look quite cool thought it could be an alright project... it weighs an absolute ton!!

Nice find! I really like these old GTs, I was close to pulling the trigger on a karakoram elite a while ago. I'd build it up as fun city bruiser with 1xX, fat slicks and a rack.

Sorry to dissapoint.
The spider extensions buttress the chain ring so that it flexes less when you change up.
