  • Finger cramp putting in a thousand fucking dots to manually route around miles of bike path. Pile of dick this mapping malarkey. Added ~7k and 400m to avoid SS13.
If it wasn't banned I'd definitely swap this crap for busy roads.

  • I set RWGPS to route like I'm driving to avoid parallel bike paths. Make sure you have a control point to stop it fucking the rest of the route though.

  • Fucking E79 in Bulgaria. FAAAARK!

  • The roads are banned though, so I have to manually route along the bike path. All to make the route worse.

  • Ah, misread your post. Sounds fucking grim.

  • See my tip about using OSM cycle to route onto bicycle paths, then the cycle option, it routes fine.

I emailed about that bulgaria one, they've banned it far to far north. Where there is no alternaive. It should only be banned to https://goo.gl/maps/wMzyrgxGNDn at worst.

  • Those valley roads aren't nice mate. I've ridden a few an they're not fun, often they're 2 lanes wide with guard rails on the white line. It's sensible to ban it, and force everyone onto the bike path, which is where cyclist should be.

  • So it will autoroute along the cycle path, but you have to select OSM Cycle first?

Cheers, I'll try that. I think I was too busy punching my coffee table to let what you said sink in. Maps >>>

  • often they're 2 lanes wide

So I'll fit then, no drama.

    :)

  • Yeah and you can see the cycle route, it's highlighted. Really easy.

  • sonofabitchmotherfuckerarrrrgh

  • Final payment email just arrived.

  • sorted my insurance - went with dogtag and a fairly comprehensive cover. I figure if I ever need good insurance the TCR would be the time.

  • I think I've already got a cheap and cheerful Insureandgo multitrip thing, plus my PedalCover H&C. Can't remember what I had last year.

  • Check insure and go. I don't think they cover the race.

  • What race? It's a cycling holiday.

  • It says they cover cycling as standard.

  • When I asked them, they told me they wouldn't cover the race.

So call them and ask, you don't want to get stuck without cover.

  • All I care about is starting. Insurance companies weave out of everything anyway.

  • Insure and go paid out big time for me when I made a big claim in NZ years ago.

Just check. You don't want to be left short. ETA do cover TCR for sure, and it is only like £20 with a policy for them.

  • I have a feeling I used https://www.eta.co.uk/insurance/cycle/ last year but I can find no record of their name in my email.

  • Actually, I might've just got travel insurance through PedalCover because they cover racing.

  • See my tip about using OSM cycle to route onto bicycle paths, then the cycle option, it routes fine.

Is that in RWGPS, ORS or something else? Curious about it doing different routing based on the map which I assumed was only graphic tiles.

  • In rwgps

and it's not just graphic tiles, its different map base.

  • I was probably the only rider going up this valley (SS13) last year. Was very relaxing riding on the railtrail all the way (>60km) to Kranjska-Gora. Except it started not in Carnia where the banned road begins! :(
And yes, very nice to change to OSMCycle. I use that often. Just watch out: The terrain model is not very accurate in some regions.
