  • Does this person have a job? Can they vote? even worse... ARE THEY RAISING A CHILD?

    Of course not.

    Brexit, natch.

    And yes.

    #cryevrytim

  • that is extraordinary. Even for a FL'er

No, what is extraordinary is that he has converted someone else to his point of view.

    #cryevrytim

  • The real reason is so you don't spot that's it's obviously fake.

    "Think about it sheeple!"

  • Here is one for the moon landing never happened, where did all that money go?

  • The one that really blows my mind is how did the greeks know the earth wasn't a sphere more tear drop shaped as it is.

  • I am sure @winnifred0001 will be along to contradict you.

  • Is "someone else" you...

  • How come the moon is exactly the same size as the sun

Illustrated by a video of an eclipse, where they are clearly not the same size?

  • How come the moon is exactly the same size as the sun

  • Ok so we've established the earth might actually be flat. Now I know what's really going to keep me awake at night...

  • Is "someone else" you...

    Well...

I have remembered another gem regarding the ice wall that bounds the earth:
"Game of Thrones yeah? Where do you think they got the idea from?"

From which I assume there's an ice wall in G0T and is therefore damning evidence.

I wonder what Dr Who has to teach us...

  • This podcast has some interesting insights into why it's so hard to argue facts and logic which people who hold strong beliefs, like flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers.

This link is to the first of 3 in the series.

  • I assumed this thread was about electrical works.

  • LOL! I really ruffled some feathers with that video. I loved the comment saying I was "really, really stupid" but hey...

  • This was a good one. The sun's reflection off the 'dome'. The sun is in our atmosphere, etc. Gravity isn't real. How come it doesn't pull the moon, sun or clouds down then? Etc etc.

  • I can't help but comment on these videos. Don't know why I bother

  • tl;dr: they're too stupid to understand

  • Space-X rocket launch, they go up then sideways to escape the circular atmosphere. If the earth was flat they would just go straight up.

Surely if the earth was flat they could just drive them off the edge.

  • Surely if the earth was flat they could just drive them off the edge.

And because the earth accelerates with 9.81 m/s² upwards, you don't need any fuel to get them into space. Just tip them over the edge.

  • Yep, then save your fuel for the trip back.

  • By the way, if the earth accelerates with 9.81 m/s² upwards, how fucking fast are we going at the moment? What happens if when we reach light speed? The earth folds into a sphere?

Let's calculate that. It takes 299792458 [m/s] / 9.81 [m/s²] = 30559884 [s] before you'd reach light speed, assuming starting from a stand still (which raises more questions about when and how the earth started moving anyway, but that's another topic).

30559884 seconds is roughly just 21222 days or 58 years. What.

  • If only it were that simple! Then it would just be about education. The problem is that these people consider these concepts a crucial part of their identity and their brain shuts down any attempt to challenge that aspect of them.

According to the researchers, some values are apparently so crucial to your identity, that the brain treats a threat to those ideas as if they were a threat to your very existence.

Would be really interesting to read some research that shows how these ideas become so entrenched in the first place though. Not enough taught about critical thinking at an early age? It gives them a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging within a group?

To be honest, I wish we could just ignore people like this and disregard them as dumb f****, but their actions do have an effect on the rest of us, and it can be a dangerous one (e.g. Current measle outbreaks).

  • Then it would just be about education

Not necessarily, some people are just limited. I tend to assume everyone's an idiot until they prove otherwise.
