  • Sumatra Wahana Coldbrew 32g/500ml for 12hrs. Into fridge for tomorrow. Got a smaller (125ml ish) Kilner bottle I will fill & add some crushed ice to drink whilst marshalling in the sunshine at club tri tomorrow.

  • N'aww you guys... Great photos, I hope you're all enjoying it.

  • What's the census on manual grinders these days? Did heaps of research about 10 years ago and got a second hand Zassenhaus. It's been used daily since and is about to fall apart.

    Google tells me the Hario Skerton, is this a good call? Anything else I should consider? Only grinding for V60 so doesn't have to do super fine grind

    @cornelius_blackfoot replied and said it was good. It needs to a big step up from my current Porlex to justify spending the money.
    If I decide to go for it I'll have a Porlex mini and a Bodum electric grinder up for sale soon.

  • Just completed the purchase of a second hand Fiorenzato F5 for my espresso setup at home (Gaggia Classic), looking forward to testing out those 64mm burrs. Good upgrade from my current MC2!

  • If you were gonna put up that much cash, I'd be inclined to go for a made by knock (http://www.madebyknock.com/feldgrind.html) I haven't tried the handground though so don't know how it compares.

  • Had a play with one belonging to a friend - really like the design/build quality but overall found the experience too similar to my Porlex tall to justify. Like the different angle for the handle rotation on the Handground - looks much easier on the wrist. But as up thread (in fact I think you put me onto it) I've ordered a Wilfa : )

  • I got a Hario cold brewer. It makes lovely cold brew and is very easy to use. Would recommend

  • Yeah that's my worry. As I've got a Porlex already I'd want a considerable step-up to justify the spend.

  • I have a porlex, and I unless I was gonna upgrade to an electric grinder, I don't think I would bother. Full disclosure though, I make coffee as a day job and I'm very lazy about it at home, so might not be too invested in the quality of grind 😂

  • Porlex does perfectly acceptable grind for most uses, so for 79 quid for a hand grinder upgrade I'd skip a couple of bags of coffee this month and try to stretch budget to 100 for the electric Wilfa.

  • I've got an electric grinder too.
    But I'm going to be traveling long term so would like a hand grinder that can match my electric (or pretty close) for consistency of particle size.
    Also should mention that I won't be traveling by bike so not worried about size/weight.

  • I have to confess that I do have a relatively irrational reason that contributes to my love of the Porlex. It fits in an aeropress like this hotdog in a seattube:

  • I have to disagree about the vertical rotation - my grinder has the handle on top, spins horizontally and I find that I effectively use both hands when I'm grinding - right hand turns the handle and the left hand moves sympathetically. Hard to explain, but if you look from on top you'd see the hands crossing and uncrossing as I grind the beans.
    With the handle affixed a la Handground, the non-handle-turning-hand (technical term there) can only serve to resist the motion instead of assisting with it.

  • I'm still practising with my Hario skerton, but I found yesterday that lifting it up off the worktop and using both hands is way easier than trying to hold it still and using only one hand.
