  • missed this afternoon as had to go out, catching back up on it here, sounded crazy and brutal looking forward to highlights,
just seen the Porte crash, really nasty fingers crossed he is not badly injured.

  • Or a RD that's been damaged by contact in the Porte crash.

It's possible - he gets a glancing blow from DM's feet on the drive side. That said the problem he has is quite a few KM's down the road, and as the NS mechanic fiddles with it it limply slides down in to the smallest cog. What luck - damage to the mech that only kicks in six km down the road, and then the mech is still aligned, but just 'dead'.

Really think mechanics are forgetting to charge Di2 in the biggest race in the world?

I'm not suggesting that. Could be a duff battery caused by some production issue. Froome had a similar issue it seemed, he had time for a bike change.

  • When a rear di2 deraillur gets it it can go onto some limp mode, where it does shift down to the smallest cog.

  • What's the news on Porte?

  • Zoinks

  • Yea, some chap on Twitter saying the hanger was bent too. Either way, it makes it even more amazing for Uran to have bought that home and won in a sprint.

  • Likewise, what was actually wrong with Froome's bike when Aru attacked?

  • Even if there was something wrong with it, when Aru attacked Froome with a mechanical he was a villain, but when Barguil attacked UrĂ¡n with a mechanical he was a hero...

  • People bitched about him holding onto NS, but cameras showed a number of riders with uncomfortably long holds on their own team cars just for fun. I think NS is okay, especially if it's crash related.

  • Seemed to be stuck in whatever super spinny gear he was using at the time - not seen much on it the exact cause because the consequences were more interesting I suppose.

  • It was bent. Nothing to do with the electronic in electronic shifting.

Who said Froome's was a battery issue? He runs stupid chainrings. His setup is more sensitive to a knock.

  • Geraint crashed when Majka went down in front of him so just unlucky. Again.

  • So wasn't down to handling? I was prepared to express sympathy but also criticise his lack of ability to stay upright. The Giro crash was certainly blameless

  • Richie Porte has suffered a fractured collarbone and hip in stage nine crash. Verdict is four to six weeks off the bike.

According to a Sophie Smith on the bird.

  • Ouch, but thankfully nothing really neck-related (they were putting neck brace on him, hence)

  • Will wait and see what the official channels report, as that's from a journalist whose source has not been cited. Fingers crossed she's wrong and the damage is less serious.

  • I want some quality journalism on Kwiatos ride and AG2R tactics

  • Ouchies. This Tour has a taken a toll, riders put themselves in danger for our entertainment, so no jokes about riders crashing cool? It's just shit

  • Sagan* out today. And Renshaw.

    *The elder brother

  • Today was a champion's performance from Froome. Led his rivals up Mont du Chat after repeatedly closing down attacks, descended with bravery at the front and keep pushing to the line. Great all-round showing from him.

  • Other than when he pushed Aru into spectators, you mean?

  • If you made a squad from all the people who started the Tour and are already out through DQ or injury, it would be the best team in the UCI world tour!

Porte, Thomas, Valverde, Gesink, Izaguirre, Herrada for GC / superdoms. Sagan, Cavendish, Demare, Renshaw, Guarnieri, Trentin for sprinters and their domestiques

  • Or when he blocked Uran inside the last 800 metres or so?

  • Given that both Froome and Aru think there is nothing in this, what insight do you have that means you know better than the actual protagonists?
