Horrifically unprepared for the first heat - chucked out the back almost straight away and stayed there cruising up as I didn't feel there was anything worth riding for. Was in a tough heat, including the eventual winner & second place overall, so learned from it and moved on.
Second heat went much better. Was in a group of five, picked a much more sensible bigger gear, and managed to secure a safe second place which got me through. Nearly caught the guy in first on the line too.
Third round was up against some really strong guys (one finished third overall), and just didn't get a good enough start. Lost a couple of bike lengths to the front two there, and it basically stayed that way until the top, so was third on the line. Could have maybe gone a little harder, as I felt pretty fresh at the top while the two ahead of me were bent double, but I'll remember that for next year.
Just wish there were more events like it, because it was a brilliant evening, all in all.
