  • What the hell is going on there that people are throwing other people's stuff around?

  • My second round of shopping came through today ... iPad Pro 10.5 with pencil and cover, LG 5K display and magic keyboard/mouse.

I've only opened the iPad as I'm off to Glasgow for a wedding but it is really a thing of beauty. The screen is simply amazing.

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm so tempted by one of those 5K displays, dead nice. Totes jelly.

  • iPad Pro 10.5 with pencil and cover

If they make sketch for iOS, I will never buy a macbook again.

  • Hmmm. I still need something that runs Ruby on Rails but yeah, I could earn a living on this thing if it had Sketch. Or if I could draw.

  • Yeah, can't wait to hook it up - being a contractor has let me put together my ideal desk setup, excited.

  • Can't you

    sudo -i

get prompted for password once, then run your script, without sudo, via command line in that elevated session when you need to, perhaps using a suitable alias?

Disclaimer: I no longer have a Mac (or working VM) to test it on.

  • Got my MBP screen replaced today, they actually replaced the whole lid assembly... Shame they ordered the lo-res early 2011 screen and not the hi-res late 2011 version they were supposed to... All is not lost, they've ordered the correct panel/shell and putting that in next week...

Not having lot of luck with my tech stuff atm... 😐

  • Anyone got the new MBP 15" and getting the popping noise as it warms up?
It's coming from the bottom of the screen where it says Macbook Pro. I've found a few threads about it, but there has not been an official response from apple as far as I'm aware.
I hope it will lead to a replacement which is a newer model!

  • Quick PSA regarding Filevault...

I shut my Late-2012 iMac down for the first time since January last night. There was a thunderstorm and I wasn't too keen on my machine getting fried in the unlikely event of a power surge.

When I came to turn it back on this morning Filevault refused to accept my (correct) password at boot. It kept encouraging me to enter my (long since misplaced) recovery key or reboot into recovery mode.

Much googling and stressing led me to the source; my recently purchased Chinese eBay Magic Keyboard clone. It appears that Filevault won't accept a password from certain input devices (I assume there's an approved list or something).

Booting into the Recovery Mode gives an option along the lines of "My keyboard isn’t working when typing my password to login" at which point you can enter your password to disable Filevault and decrypt your boot drive. Trivially easy to do, to the extent I question why one prompt screen won't accept it, and another will.

TL;DR - If your Apple keyboard breaks and you're broke and purchase a cheap eBay clone to see you through, it might cause you issues booting through Filevault.

  • I would buy this, had work not just given me an unlocked HP Elite X2

  • which reminds me, anyone interested in buying a 2012 Retina MBP and/or 27 inch Thunderbolt display?

  • How much for the display....?

  • Any idea of a decent price to sell a 2011 MBP? i5 with a upgraded SSD. 4gb version.

Has slight screen burn and a loose-ish hinge. Does not stop usage at all.

Cheers guys, no idea of second hand apple prices!

  • Anyone know why, when in Safari, if one clicks on a tweet nothing happens?

By contrast, click on a tweet in Chrome and the tweet pops up.

    Screenshots for clarity:

  • My MBA takes ages until I can type in my password after booting up from standby since quite some time now. Is this fixable?

  • Safari is shit and you shouldn't use it.

  • Oh, must have forgotten that.
It's the lowest 13" mid 2012 model with 8GB RAM with 9,71GB left on the SSD

  • Have you ran the hard drive tools

You mean the implemented first aid thingy? Did that just now.
The desktop is already clean except for some temporary PDFs I frequently use right now and the bin is always empty ;) Not sure how that should make a difference though, haha

  • Anyone interested in an apple Magic Mouse v1?

  • Safari is shit and you shouldn't use it.

    Came here to say this.

Seriously, why do people use safari?

  • Why is it though? I quite like it as it's fast and doesn't drain battery or packs up the RAM as much as Chrome.

  • Loads of basic shit just doesn't work on Safari. For example. pages with live content do not update under safari - so if I have my email site open, or facebook messenger, the page does not update when I receive a new message. That's bullshit.

Also web services that do calling such as facebook messenger, bluejeans do not work on Safari.

Safari is effectively unusable for me.

Yes Chrome is a memory bastard, but ram is cheap.

  • Chrome is only a memory bastard if you never close it or reset your computer.
