xt600 ... 1986, 26k kilometers... 1200 euro'
You really need to have a look. Originally I didn't notice it was 26,000 km which is c.16,000 miles, so it should be good for plenty more. But it does seem a bit high for a 30yrs old bike... but maybe that's just what they cost.
The problem is if you don't know how well it's been looked after. There's a del boy's garage on youtube where he gives you tips on second hand bikes. I think you need to look for overall clues and check if there are any pricey parts. For eg what does a new disc cost? Are fork seals still easily available? Any known faults? etc. Then budget that in.
Nect thing; i have been looking for a xt600 for a while, found this one 2 hours away, guy is telling me it runs fine and i should be able to ride it home if i want. 1986, 26k kilometers. Only thing i can see in the photo's is a missing right hand mirror, missing passenger pegs and modified/non-stock exhaust. He wants 1200 euro's for it. If i buy it, i'll probably put some new oil in it etc. but won't take it apart as i don't want to fuck it up. He doesn't have service history, he bought it as a second bike a couple of years ago, not ridden much but doesn't mind if he can't sell it and will keep riding it. Does this sound like a fair price if everything is running well? It does have some 'usual' enduro damage, is what he says, but nothing broken, original wheels, frame all good etc.
