i appreciate that, and unbeknownst to this thread i've already done it with no problems before but a different bb (MBK with shimano zee). troublesome is fine, it'll only be a pickle to sort out, not to ride.
also, it's for someone else who does not forum, and he's adamant he wants hollowtech and other things.
i just want to know if my original idea is feasible. i'm sure it'll be fine. no further questions.

The thrust of my point is that you want a road chainset for your road bike, trying to use an MTB one is just asking for trouble with no benefit.
