The thrust of my point is that you want a road chainset for your road bike, trying to use an MTB one is just asking for trouble with no benefit.

i appreciate that, and unbeknownst to this thread i've already done it with no problems before but a different bb (MBK with shimano zee). troublesome is fine, it'll only be a pickle to sort out, not to ride.
also, it's for someone else who does not forum, and he's adamant he wants hollowtech and other things.
i just want to know if my original idea is feasible. i'm sure it'll be fine. no further questions.

Well, it will be needlessly unpleasant to ride unless your friend is a cowboy

he was a courier for 11 years. he won't care how it rides as long as the wheels don't fall off, i suspect

hy/rds go for £130/pair with adapters and rotors.. that's why i'll have to keep mine in the end..
-
• #115408
These also come with rotors and adapters, and as I said, are arguably better

Few updates on my ugly little duckling. Trimmed the cables, cut the steerer and threw on a BMW saddle, wrong angle apparently but had no Allen keys on me after I left home. Still haven't put my Profile cranks on but that can wait. Contemplating over going single speed...hmmm decisions, decisions, decisions

What are the most secure skewers apart from Dura Ace?
-
• #115413
Any of the other shimano ones

No personal experience

XT
Or these Fulcrum/Campa skewers, have a set and they are really nice quality:

Neither have I, but basic physics says RWS 5mm skewers are no better than Allen key skewers. Carrying two heavy expensive wrenches doesn't seem like a benefit over one cheap one.

• #115417
I guess that's true, hadn't really thought about that actually

What's with the weird split at the end of the lever?

New bike arrived
Took the long way home

What's with the weird split at the end of the lever?
The drive hole in the lever won't pass the cam, so the lever has to be made from two halves pressed onto the camshaft from opposite ends.

• #115421
It's a split
-
• #115423
That didn't make any sense

Yup, £80, italian BB, but need new headset, a nice frame, just got replaced by a better one really.

Wut size
it would be very straightforward if i had these components already! i only have the frameset - my fault for not clarifying
