So basically we could have made a more informed decision then them. Except we're still debating it.

Who will win today as my bet on Cav wasn't too fruitful yesterday. Sagan on Monday was an easy choice

Just after the break went, Thomas stopped for a 'piss' to allow it to get some more time knowing that the peloton would slow and to prevent any one of the CG contenders bridging to it. He got the break another minute.
(Froome did a similar thing last year when he realised he had no team support at the top of a climb and didn't want to be attacked on the descent. He stopped for a 'piss' and waited for the rest of his team to arrive.)

Was reading Phil Gaimon's book about that. Having a natural break to decide when the 'right people' get away (largely at the race leader/DS's behest) is something you wouldn't necessarily know about without the whole stage being televised, but it's an interesting tactical decision.

This is common though, generally when the make-up of the break is 'acceptable' the leader's team will knock off the pace and and everyone stops for a piss. GC contenders are never going to be willingly allowed into a break, and if they did bridge after the break had formed they would be relentlessly chased to the point where the other members of the breakaway will be telling them to fuck off to give them a chance to stay away.

Hilarious. Quite lot of hate for Cav on twitter etc. A good laugh reading some of the nonsense.

Does a hill finish:
a) increase the chance of peloton catching up w the break
b) decrease the chance of peloton catching up w the break
c) your mum -

Do the sprinters really have that hard a time doing the climbs?
I'm guessing they must be carrying more weight in terms of muscle than the all out hill climbers and GC riders. -
• #796
d) it depends

Is it worth tuning in for the finish today?
-
• #798
Yes

On a day like today it's pretty straightforward for them, get to the foot of the final climb with the peloton, then sit up and cruise to the finish.
It's on stages like Sunday's where they'll really suffer.
