  • Just after the break went, Thomas stopped for a 'piss' to allow it to get some more time knowing that the peloton would slow and to prevent any one of the CG contenders bridging to it. He got the break another minute.

    (Froome did a similar thing last year when he realised he had no team support at the top of a climb and didn't want to be attacked on the descent. He stopped for a 'piss' and waited for the rest of his team to arrive.)

  • This is common though, generally when the make-up of the break is 'acceptable' the leader's team will knock off the pace and and everyone stops for a piss. GC contenders are never going to be willingly allowed into a break, and if they did bridge after the break had formed they would be relentlessly chased to the point where the other members of the breakaway will be telling them to fuck off to give them a chance to stay away.
