• Looking forward to this, fuck I really loved Blakey's haunted splatterbiek.

  • Third colour down just now. The white drowns (?) out the blue a bit, probably should've done it second and the blue third or last. I'm about to make some lunch, let the white dry and then do the pink splatter. If the blue doesn't pop enough, I'll do another round last. Kind of working against the clock as I can only do stuff when my son is asleep. Luckily this isn't precise painting.

EDIT: Looking at the photos, the blue is bright enough. I think it just doesn't stand out from a distance like the white does.

  • I think it looks fine. A good ratio of the three colours so far. Look forward to seeing the pink out down 👍🏻

  • Finished the splatter paint. I think. Kind of wish the blue was more electric, but oh well. Pulled the tape over the decals off as well. Just need to let it dry and I'll try and clear coat it this weekend.

Also put the 9 speed cassette on the hub and took the decals off the rims. I just need to clean them up.

  • The colours might brighten up once the clear goes on but looking good.

  • @Sparky I am game if you want to do this in my backyard some day

  • They're pretty muted colours to begin with. Also, those photos were taken in the shade. I'm still happy with it.

  • Looks cool AF! Giving me ideas now

  • Reckon we could strip and paint in one day, rebuild next? Get it done in a weekend so I don't miss commuting?

I put rear dynamo light on last night and it's basically just electrical-taped to tubes - wouldn't look good on white paint.

  • Clearcoat on. Took some photos on Saturday. The stem adaptor is waiting to be picked up from the post office and the mudguards are out for delivery today. All that is left is to order a new stem, the cables, possibly a chain (the one I have might be too short) and a new seat post.

  • Stem adapter works perfectly. It gives me a lot of steerer to work with and I'll be able to raise the Yepp higher, which was the problem with the Salsa stem on the Paconi. I ended up maxing that out and the base of the clamp of the seat only just cleared the top tube and cables.

The mudguards also got delivered. They should work okay. It's cold and wet outside so I can't be bothered seeing how they will fit over the tyres.

  • paint looks rad

  • You are still using this with a threaded headset aren't you?

  • Yeah, I will be. This will just allow me to use a threadless stem.

  • Are you just planning to use it as a typical threadless adapter, above the threaded lock nut? That particular item is designed for extending threadless steerers, but I guess it'll work

  • paint job looks great, have been thinking to paint my frame in a similar way.

  • I have a brand new 110mm 1,1/8 quill stem laying around that I'll never use if you want it for the postage?

  • Paintjob is amazing, well done

  • Typical threadless adapter. It just happens to be that the headset is 1 1/8" threaded, not 1" like most frames.

The adapter can be used a quill to threadless adapter as well as a threadless extender according to the website:

    https://bbbcycling.com/en/bike-parts/headset-parts/BHP-21

The design is pretty much the same as the other quill to threadless adapters I've used in the past.

You can see the wedge in this photo, like a normal quill stem.

  • Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to use a threadless stem. Plus 110mm will be too long. Probably going to go with 90mm, 100mm max.

Thanks for the kind words about the paint as well. I wasn't quite sure how it'd turn out.

  • Not much progress on this. Bought the cables, outers, ferrules, cable ends on Saturday. Also got some Velo Orange Moderniste bottle cages. I've been using them on my other two builds and dig them.

EDIT: Also got a stick on cable guide for the rear brake as I'm using v-brakes and this has cable routing for canti's.

  • Paint looks great! Can't wait to see this built up! 😬

  • Finally got a few spare hours to start putting it together. Surprisingly enough it's going together reasonably smooth. Touch wood.

Cranks and pedals are now on. Went to put the front derailleur on, but the shim I was using was too thick, luckily I dug around in my parts box and found the original shim that came with it and it now fits fine.

Headset and fork installed, as well as the stem adapter. Played around with the spacers and put the bracket for the Yepp on as well to see clearance . Can't do much until I get the stem though, hopefully that will only be a few weeks.

Also fitted the mudguards. They're not as close as I would like, unlike my other bikes, but they'll do. The front one can't sit any lower, but an increase in tyre size and a less knobby tyre will solve that issue in the future. These are only 26x1.9.

Looking forward to finishing it soon.

EDIT: Disregard the saddle as well. I've got a Brooks to go on there.

  • You could put a few washers between the BB shell and the rear mudguard. It'd tidy it up nicely.
