Thanks.
The wheels of justice are turning but very fucking slowly.
Waiting for final police report still but hope to have some news soon...

Took me a year and a half go get compensation on a shut and dry case.

Anyone got any magic ways of removing a tubed tyre that is half rotted to the rim?
Have a set of 14" levers but never been so badly as defeated as this one. Suspect the alloy rim has rotted onto the bead a little holding it rock solid in place.
Tried many lubes, many levers and even a crowbar, she ain't popping off that bead, might have to go to a ture shop (ultimate shaming as my mate works there, however they will be able to balance it proper) -

Just sold my Bonneville. Bit melancholy about it, I loved that bike, but I couldn't keep her safe from the local hoodlums in my flat so it was the right call. Still a bit sad though.
On the other hand there were two motorcycles nicked from Walthamstow last night, one a mugging with knives on Bakers Arms, so maybe it's the right time. Ride safe out there dudes.

Sad face.
It's really depressing. I mean, safety and all since it's just a bleeding bike, but it removes the flavour of riding. I haven't gotten on the bike since the jump as I really want to, but just don't really feel motivated to go spin away. -

I'm supposed to get an alert on my phone every time there's a road accident in London, for work. I looked for details of yours as sometimes I get CCTV footage. Nothing. Quite a few seem to slip through the net.
I fell off my Vespa at about 5mph almost a year ago and I'm still having shoulder pain, so I'm glad you're ok - it really is the main thing.
I know it's not your style, but a cheap old bike might be the way forward...

Fucking hell, riding home from work last saturday on a back road, i have to take a right turn while i see someone coming from that direction, riding slow and (i thought) checking to see if there was nothing coming from his right side. I take the most inside line through the corner possible because he was acting a bit strange, and all of sudden he is riding right at me and steers away at the last moment, hitting the side of my knee and motorcycle. I managed to stay upright, being a bit shocked, and see him speeding away. I turn around, manage to take him over and he stops, gets out of his car and tells me: ''what are you going to do about it? Nobody has seen it''. I check for damage, nothing on my motorcycle, not even a single little scratch that i can see. He admits to being on his phone while driving, still laughing at me and telling me i can't do anything about it. I call the police, they say they can't do anything as there is no damage and no witnesses. I felt so fucking shitty, this guy was on his phone, driving, and he hit me on my motorcycle and i can't do shit about it and he knows it. Afterwards, i call the police again because i wanted to make a notice from this, they tell me they won't because there is no evidence and it's my word against his.
I'm thinking about buying some kind of camera, i do have a gopro but it's big and old which means it doesn't work really good and the quality is pretty bad. Anybody using a helmet camera or some kind of dashcam on his bike and which one?

I had a go pro on my helmet for a bit, but it caught the wind too much and is a pain to remember to recharge the battery.
That said it's probably stupid not to have something.
I've seen some small ones on the side of helmets that look more aero. That would be one of my main considerations.

Depressing that everyone is moving to the mindset of taping everything whilst they're on the road.

I'd have headbutted the cunt and ridden off

You should be reassured that drivers and riders alike will go about their business with consideration for others and if they don't they will be proven to have acted in a manner that endangered the life of other road users. Is that unreasonable?

• #10014
I seem to have phrased that incorrectly, so my point seem to have been missed. It being that being 'considerate' now means running a live feed as a form of pre-emptive defense every time you hit the starter as opposed to it being the basis with which we should all be using the road. Considerately.
I'm not disparaging the merits of the method, just the fact that we've gotten to this point. So no, I don't feel reassured that to feel some semblance of safety on the road, I have to be plastered with go-pros. -
• #10015
Indeed, a sign of the times.

• #10016
End of days kind of sign. Next step no human control of vehicles. I for one welcome our new robot overlords, etc. etc.
-
• #10017
The thing is, i wouldn't mind if he told me he was wrong etc. And tried to resolve the issue, but right now i'm just angry that there is someone on the road, who has hit someone while being on his phone with no consequences at all. If i would've had a camera he would at least get in trouble for using his cellphone. In the year that i have my license, i've seen more crazy shit happen than while driving my car.

Do you think they could request the info on his mobile use? Although he could say he pulled over.

It's insurance time again, last year it was £218.56 and i had my licence for a full 12 months (in my 1st year it cost about £450 ish)
This year I've done a comparison and now I have my licence 2 years I assumed another (smaller) drop was not inevitable, but even my current provider is quoting slightly higher than last year's quote (this was on their site)
Am I better off calling and renewing or is it likely to be the same quote?
I don't think £220 is actually that bad, considering I do 10k miles commuting, but if I can get it cheaper I'd be happier (obvs) -

calling and renewing
Always call your current insurer.
- 99% of the time they add some cheeky extras that cost you more if you autorenew
- 99% of the time they'll drop the price a bit if you ask... altho prices are going up so there's not always much they can do.
- 99% of the time they add some cheeky extras that cost you more if you autorenew
-
• #10021
also to the above. call just 'to check over the current details on the policy' mention you have had other quotes coming slightly lower.
then wait until just a day or so before the actual renewal and call back. in my experience the quote on the second call is always lower.

Or you could have set his car on fire and asked him "what he was going to do about it?"
-
• #10023
Yea when riding away i was thinking "should've kicked off his mirror", probably a good thing i didn't, as right when he was leaving there were a couple of people coming by.

Nect thing; i have been looking for a xt600 for a while, found this one 2 hours away, guy is telling me it runs fine and i should be able to ride it home if i want. 1986, 26k kilometers. Only thing i can see in the photo's is a missing right hand mirror, missing passenger pegs and modified/non-stock exhaust. He wants 1200 euro's for it. If i buy it, i'll probably put some new oil in it etc. but won't take it apart as i don't want to fuck it up. He doesn't have service history, he bought it as a second bike a couple of years ago, not ridden much but doesn't mind if he can't sell it and will keep riding it. Does this sound like a fair price if everything is running well? It does have some 'usual' enduro damage, is what he says, but nothing broken, original wheels, frame all good etc.

That's my exact point though, the threat of liability seems to have gone into the 'give a fuck' ether and despite the raise in fines and points for using phones, we all still see people being utter pricks and flagrantly using it. When confronted, they either laugh in your face or flip their shit.
Cameras will only help us so far, it's not a physical barrier against idiocy and a chunk of speeding metal. More than that, it's the mentality of that needs to change.Sorry you had to experience that.
Anyway...rant>>>
Ha!
Yeah I've monitored it for a few days and its only loosing around 10ml over 24h. The rate doesn't increase when its ridden.
