Brother in law isn't trying to rope me in to rope me into this.
Whatever he's doing must be very confusing. :)

I have two train reservations from Ipswich to pass on. It's for the later train, 15:01. Let me know if that's useful for someone.

@Oliver Schick
Isn't it just!@Hefty
The route itself being quality or the joy of a long nightride? Or is it genuinely the people? I've ridden to Dunwich before so know what to expect at the destination so genuinely curious. -

Anyone got a list of the usual stopping points. My first time and if possible id like to have a plan. As much as I can. I think the weather is ok but that could still change.

Moreton - pubs
Finchingfield - pub
Sudbury - bike shop
Needham Market lake - sausage van
One more I can't quite remember (air ambulance fund raiser)
BeachThere's plenty more open pubs and lay by coffee stops. So no need to worry about carrying more than two bottles and a sausage roll or three.

The train of twinkly lights disappearing into the night.
The weirdness of whizzing down Loughton High Road amongst hundreds of other bikes at kicking out time.
The Essex and Suffolk locals opening their front gardens to sell you bacon rolls and let you nap in their yurt.
The new friends you make on the way.
The swim in the sea at the end.
All of these things.
The route is meh. I'd not bother during the day.

Convinced - train ticket booked

Fire station last year was serving sausages in bread.

Convinced I'll finally do this, this year.
Done literally no training this year. Route looks hillier than anticipated? No idea how I'll get back - may play it by it ear....:/

It is not hilly.
There's only one place on the entire route that you may be out of the saddle, and even that is short and sweet.
It just rolls.

That bit where you turn right across the traffic up the little shopping street right at the start?
-
• #215
No, the bit in Finishingfield.
Wait, it's only called that for Ramsaye.
-
• #216
Meh. If you pedal down the hill before you can coast up that teensy little ramp.
-
• #217
But then you miss the pub.
-
• #218
You'll never beat Dulwich Paragon if you stop at every pub.
-
• #219
If you can't beat them, get too drunk to care.
-
• #220
Looking for about 3 coach tickets if any are going? Or anyone else have any good suggestions for non-cycling transport back? Ta

Dulwich Paragon
Arseholes.

Heh. Perhaps not all of them, but they treat the thing as a race, love sitting on people's wheels (even when you're riding fixed and they really shouldn't be on your wheel).
The most anti-social of all of the clubs I saw on the road the last few times.

Last DunRun I was on, one of the Paragon riders came a cropper on a pothole a couple of hours in and needed an ambulance. Hope he was OK. That's a hard lesson in riding in too-close pacelines in the dark.

Did this get set up? Do I need to do change any settings when I open the app to make the group appear as I don't have anything at the moment?
-
• #225
I set it up, told people to PM me their number.
I've added you just now, as I don't think you had PM'd and I hadn't gone back and checked who the original request was from.
It's very much about the ride. The destination isn't worth it unless you like waiting an hour for a 100% marked up breakfast. There's nothing at Dunwich.
Last year I couldn't do the ride, but rode the 25 miles from home to Fichingfield for beers and atmosphere. That was fun.
