  • Citroen DS which has this feature.

    The Citroen DS had most features 50 years years before current cars. If you had the funds and the time they would be a great classic to own. I still see a nice electric blue one cruising about Bondi, serenely floating over speed humps and passed out tourists.

    My dream is to engineer a fully electric DS , with full hydraulics ( electric pumps?) And then it would have the drivetrain it deserves.

  • Keeping up with spending money on cars... My cheap 306 gti6 project might cost me. Discovered an exhaust leak which is worse than the rotten rear box. The exhaust manifold is a 4 into one (work of art) but where it connects to the main downpipe has a rings and sprung bolt tension flangy arrangement to manage engine movement. Seems the seal is not working due to aged loose springs. Apparently hard and expensive to replace. Wondering about using a flex joint in place of it? I don't really know enough to start messing with it myself so off to a professional!

  • Totally is the future of project cars. There's loads of people offering controller kits, battery tech and motors now it's becoming accessible.

  • There's actually a guy down the road from me who electrifes vehicles. He has a tiny suzuki van that will out run most hot hatches. He was on an episode of MCM with their electric JDM turd. I need to go and knock on his door, hopefully without coming across as an internet weirdo stalker.

    Not quite a DS but I do know of a solid CX Pallas shell. Just not the right time in life for that level of shed time.

  • Would be interesting to get a ballpark figure of cost and feasibilty. The DS platform just seems perfect for it.

  • Well I'll know more when the chap gets back to me, a full, properly engineered conversion isn't going to be cheap - for one thing the electric motor will have a lot more poke than the 1.9 litre four that Citroen specified in 1966, so brakes will need to be upgraded to units that match, etc etc.

    However, it will certainly be cheaper than a Tesla, and much more fun I think.

    I await being told that I'm not allowed to spend £x on this due to some calculus of value apparent to those who study the relative value of nuts.

  • I helped build an electric car as part of one of the first Greenpower racing teams at Goodwood (school teams, basically). We used box-section steel for the chassis and bicycle wheels/brakes/gears, which was not a great combo, with the weight of child+steel+leadacid batteries it's really easy to simultaneously understeer massively at the front, balding the tyres very quickly and buckle the rear wheels, when you finally do get some lateral grip.

  • I was turning left into Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill while there was a queue of traffic going head on - went into the lane too early. Tres annoy.

  • Droning noise coming from front nearside wheel, only replaced the bearing 2 years/less than 2000 miles ago. Is there anything that's not a bearing that could cause droning from one of the wheels? It's more of a noise this time, whereas before it was a definite grumbling.

  • Interesting theory, the tyres have loads of life and all went on at the same time along with laser alignment, HOWEVER the tyre in question has suffered a couple of sidewall/kerb incidents, there's a slash on the inside and a chunk out the outside. I know it should be replaced but money/time have been factors in doing it.

    Could sidewall damage cause droning?

  • Will try this, it's an Audi A4 quattro and gets semi-regular usage

  • At least there's a high chance that in a few years, @Dammit might have made his money back on the 996. My MX5 expenditure over the last 5 years is now 5 figures, I'm never seeing that money again.

    Good news, massive Diesel leak on the E39 was just a dodgy hose to an injector. Only cost £36 to be fixed. Probably should have got that error code looked at before Saturday when I spent 2.5 hours on the side of the road waiting for the AA

  • Maybe, I'm no expert but I've had some uneven wear on a front tyre that sounded like a noisy transmission tunnel. Higher pitched than bearing rumble and a bit whiney.

  • My front right tyre pressure goes down VERY slowly. it's gone from 30psi down to 22psi over about a three month period. The other tyres have maintained their pressure regardless.

    will i die?
