Wouldn't say it speaks to the quality of most sugino parts. I've ridden mostly their lower end/older stuff and it performs like a champ. Reason I might go with shimano instead is the hidden bolt on sugino cranks is a little fiddly, but I doubt you'll be changing rings out often enough for it to be a big deal.
Well, I stumbled over a slightly used Athena group on ebay and snagged that up for an ok price. Campag it is, then. Fits the theme with the italian made frame. Kinda curious - my first contact with campagnolo.
