Dynamo hubs

Time for a wheel rebuild, might be an idea to get the hub serviced.

Anyone got any recommendations for who can service a Son 28 and then build it into a new wheel?

SJS. Although they might just send the hub back to Germany.

Has anyone running a disc brake SON 28, had any problems with the clearance between the caliper and the spokes?

"A word of warning though - the SON 28 6-Bolt disc leaves less clearance between the brake caliper and the spokes than any other hub I have seen. I had to change from a 160mm rotor to a 180mm in order to prevent the spokes catching on the caliper."

Yes I've had this happen. Son 28 SL Centerlock +Trp Spyre wont clear my spokes.

Are Centrelock spaced different to 6-bolt and is it safe to shim a 6-bolt rotor?

I'm building a bike for someone, so "suck it and see" isn't really an option, so I need to find a known safe option.

Any suggestions for a reliable usb charger before I bite the bullet and order a Busch + Muller USB Werk?

I got a zzing 'smartphone edition', it has an integrated battery which is nice.

FWIW I think they updated Spyre to thin out the spoke side lever arm for better clearance. Think it was a running change.

I found that a Spyre gave quite a bit less clearance than a HY/RD.

No worries with a SONdeluxe + centrelock adaptor and a HY/RD.

Thanks. I'd love one of those, but at £150, it costs more than my whole wheel... I think I'll go for USB Werk.

They really are very good and will provide a much better experience than the USB-Werk. They have a built-in supercapacitor that helps with the garmin 'shut down when you slow down' problem

Thanks I'm on a v tight budget, and cheapest I can find the Igaro D1 for is £159.99 on SJS.. It's really just to charge my phone while touring - I don't have a Garmin, sadly!

Just got a price match offer on the USB week for £58, so I think that's my best bet.

Front light and Igaro go into same connector.
