It was just the job for me. I used mine to free a crank which had the threads stripped out and I couldn't use a puller. Works really well but can make a mess of the BB face if you're not careful. As I wasn't. Good job that needed replacing as well, but saved a trip to the shop and very satisfying to use :-)
Mates got the tool you need its like a big fat tuning fork wedge . Place behind crank over bb spindle and hammer it in . This will push the cranks off. 30 min job if it goes to plan .
