wondered whether the velosolo converted Shimano disk hub was Tester approved...
In theory, yes, the HB-M525 used with a 6-bolt sprocket is #tester_approved. I haven't actually used one, but XT in general gets my seal of approval, as does using sturdy front disc hubs as rear fixed hubs. I have an M758 on the tandem, but the 525 is a simpler conversion and the 10mm axle is sufficient for a solo.

too late for me in the drops to reach the front brake in time
Two brakes and proper drop bar levers are #tester_approved, a single cross top on your fixie skidder isn't. Saved my skin tonight when a taxi driver thought my hi-vis bar tape, dayglo wheel decals and flashing front light amounted a cloak of invisibility and entered a roundabout across my path.
Had an epic fail few days ago... Decided to spare my nice vintage Campag track wheelset from the nastyness of daily London commuting and installed a beater wheelset instead, including a Somos double fixed track hub, which felt a little dodgy but I thought (wrongly) was ok...
All went well during Sunday test rice and Monday morning commute so I felt safe when riding home in the evening, until the lockring threads turned into alloy paste, the cog unscrewed itself, too late for me in the drops to reach the front brake in time... The rear of a bus was fast approaching so I jumped onto the pavement to avoid it, lost control and had to use my face to brake... Complete idiot me! Luckily, only cosmetic damage to me (the face!) and the bike (bar tape), I managed to put the cog back and cycle back home, slightly in shock.
Working with slowly fading away symptoms of minor head injury the next day over ten hours in front of a computer screen, and even more hours yesterday wasn't nice!
Sorry for the long story... I'm thinking of building another set of wheels and wondered (sorry of this has been mentioned over the last 25 pages, it probably has) whether the velosolo converted Shimano disk hub was Tester approved...
Ta!
