I had a similar pleasurable experience with my Grail/Schwalbe Pro One. Happily surprised that a track pump was enough to get the air in (I think the tight fit of the tyre helped somewhat). With regards to the locking in, did you lubricate the tyre with soapy water, as I suspect it helps the tyre snap into the beads, but as @Jon says, as long as the tyre appears to be consistently seated around the rim, you should be good to go. I've got 30ml in mine, but 40ml is perfectly acceptable too.
First go at the tubeless thing, everything worked perfectly! I mean how/why!? WTB cross boss, Stan's grail, stans tape and valves and efetto mariposa sealant. Tyre went on without issue (used tyre levers) then the beads locked on in first go with a shitty floor pump. It is going to explode on 1st ride isn't it?
Made me rethink my position on road wheels which need new tyres and have tubeless rims ..
One question, should I have to over inflate the tyre first time round to hear the beads locking in? If so by how much? Is 35/40ml sealant fine in these?
