  • Gilles Berthoud stainless steel mudguards (650B x 50mm). They recommend the extended front guard if running a rando front bag set up.

Wheels are 650b Halo Vapour stealth (subtle logo) with Halo Spin Doctor 6D rear hub (road 11sp) and Spin Doctor front hub. Full build here if that helps at all.

  • Does anyone know of what 700c wheels would you would recommend to upgrade too for road cycling?

  • Hi all - I am looking to upgrade my gearing on my CDF, can I use a 105 (5700) shifters with my existing rear cassette, but a new derailleur; I don't think I can as it is a 9 speed Sora, but wanted to check...

  • Why? Just get a new cassette. You can pick up a used 10 speed one on here for 15 quid usually

  • Thanks - just wanted to check - more the faff (I know it's not much but cba) of having to change it.

  • That bike is getting me pure buzzing (minus brooks, but that's just me). Are those compass maes bars, also what bag is that?

  • Thanks, first time riding a Brooks over any extended period of time and my arse is thanking me. They're Ritchey Comp Evo Max drop bars and the bag is a custom jobbie by BIGxTOP.

  • Heads up that the Tour is going over the Croix de Fer tomorrow, tune in and see what it looks like!

  • This is what the top looked like last Friday afternoon. :)

  • I'm looking to move my CdF into winter mode by removing the guards and adding some MTB tyres... Anyone running 650b have experience with chunky tyres? Trying to avoid shelling out to find they're too big.

  • I'm looking to move my CdF

I audibly gasped for a moment.

  • winter mode

    removing the guards

    🤔

  • @Tijs apologies for the click-baity intro. Can't pretend I haven't been dreaming about a 650b custom disc frame from Hallett but unfortunately not.

@PhilDAS XC build with guards, now we're talking functional!

  • Any chance you've got your old fork kicking around??

Here's mine, new bartape and saddle (both brooks). @jambon's randonneur is massive inspo.

I want to switch to silver components (seatpost/stem), but as it is in touring mode, I need a pretty high rise stem (unless someone has a black disc cdf fork with lots of steerer they want to unload)

    Still needs wider tyres/guards.

  • I fitted Panaracer comets no problem without the guards.

  • @r_mash looking good, glad mine was some inspiration. Nice bar tape ;)

@mi7rennie thanks a lot, 2.0" wide? Do you have any pics of the clearance? (sorry)

  • Looks lovely!

I don't have the original steel fork as I bought mine second hand, just have this carbon one for sale: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/306460/#comment13787079

    PM if you're interested.

Also, lets see some drive side pics of your cdf!

  • Thanks...I'd like to stick with a steel fork....here is a lame-o drive side pic (still working out fit for comfy touring). Also photoshopped some silver components in...

  • believe it or not I picked that colour before stumbling upon your thread!

  • Great minds and all that

  • totally stealing your idea for silver seatpost/stem though....just need to find some. :)

would like to put on bigger tyres, but it's a xs bike, might get dwarfed.

  • Condor have some good looking own brand...

  • good tip! cheers.

  • My everyday commuter, 7000+ miles/year. 2016 frameset, but it now has a carbon fork I liberated from a CdA. 105 groupset, TRP Spyre brakes (you have to pull them apart and regrease the internals after every winter), Pro-Lite Revo wheels and various tubeless Schwalbe tyres.
