Selling complete systems, not components. That way, they get the profit on the hubs, spokes and tyres too, not just the rims.

Odd though, as the hand built / hobby build market is never going to cannibalise sales of wheelsets — we'll just go elsewhere.

And they won't care. There's much more money to be made from selling either aftermarket or OEM wheels than there is from trying to compete with Chinese extrusion benders.
