Word has it that the £1 billion is just the start. Everytime the DUP sense weakness they'll make new demands.
-
• #4153
Slightly OT, but have you seen that new one with the baby singing Proud Mary - terrifying...
-
• #4154
I don't suppose there's any chance the Scottish conservative MPs vote against the queen's speech as a result of the DUP deal is there?
-
• #4155
Nope.
The Tories are quite good at uniting behind their leader in the Commons. The issue that will tear this government apart is Brexit, there is no deal that will get the support of all of the Tory MPs and the DUP.

That '£1Bn' announcement is just to get May to the Summer Recess.
I expect a health problem revealed by routine check-up/overwork/exhaustion leading to 'reluctant resignation' in the late Summer Recess,
with Tory selection process all worked out in time for the new Leader to preen at the Tory Party Conference.(Only thing that doesn't accord with this, would be the Tory party desire to have a General Election before students return to University in September,
got to do their best to wrench Canterbury and Warwick South back from Corbyn).£1Bn won't even pay for the system to have a soft 'Hard Border' between NI and RoI.

£1Bn won't even pay for the system to have a soft 'Hard Border' between NI and RoI.
Exactly that. It will all be lost.
Unless the DUP has another sneaky plan...

Won't the £1bn effect the Barnett formula, so an extra £1bn for NI, means extra £££ for Wales and Scotland, to that money tree just got a little more magical?
-
• #4159
I think they're arguing that this is actually "post-Troubles" money to help restore things, rather than normal money that the Barnett formula is applied to.
-
• #4160
No. Which is pissing off the Welsh and the Scots, no end.
Some form of doublespeak about being a fixed grant so not subject to Barnett.
-
• #4161
The fact remains that, in a time of Tory imposed austerity, the population of Northern Ireland get more money from the UK Government per head than any other region. And the Tories have just found a minimum of £1 billion extra for them. That will, I think, have electoral consequences.

'Monorail'

The magic money tree has been found.
The fact that the DUP will now use this for their electoral advantage also stinks.
-
• #4165
"The bad news for the DUP is that the billion pounds is coming in £10 notes with Charles Darwin on the back."
-
• #4166
They seem to have found a magic money tree
zing !

explain pls

• #4168
not sure if serious,..... but some of them are creationists.
-
• #4169
They're not into the whole evolution thing.
-

The only problem with that argument is that people like Theresa May don't seem to think that elections have consequences (when they carry on as normal even though their policies have not gained the majority support of the electorate).
-
• #4171
TBF nobody's policies gained majority support from the electorate.
-
• #4172
In which case their policies are wrong. We need a Re Open Nominations option on the ballot paper. I'd hazard RON would have won the last election.
-
• #4173
newly elected, lol

CSB: I used to live near Monkstown, part of which is an epic shitehole. Full of "Irish out" murals and other niceties...
With that attitude I think May will fit right in there... :)
Saw it the other day and groaned. At least it isn't the WHAZZZUUUUUUP! one
