  • I got one of the ITM saddles which has a Gooch Canal™ and I've found it to be pretty good. I positioned it as if it were a normal saddle with no nose and as long as I've chamois creamed I've had no issues.

  • Selle Italia Iron seems to have the skinniest nose of the split/stubby designs. Also excellent for pushing off, as the pusher can grab the spoiler rather than the seat post 🙂

  • That thing is nuts! (pun intended)

  • On that note, are there any fast, flat 10s on the 8th or 9th?

Come down for the Poole Wheelers 10 on the 9th. 1.5miles of downhill at the start.

  • Improved my 25 PB by 3mins today. Thought it was a Garmin error at first!

@mdcc_tester did you get caught by your Dad on Sat?

  • Nice one, was that the ECCA 25?

  • Sounds good but I've got to be in Oxford that afternoon. That would be 400km of driving just to get there, I think it's a bit excessive.

There's a 25 near Reading on the Saturday I may try and enter - advice on H25/1 anyone?

  • It was the BJW 25 on P413/25. I should get out of the South district once in a while but I really can't be bothered.

  • You know the obvious answer...

  • Haha. No way a 24 weekend before tcr starts.

  • did you get caught by your Dad on Sat?

No, I put my good wheels in and did a season's best and he accidentally left it on the little ring, so he beat me by over 2 minutes on standard but I had plenty in hand on scratch.

  • advice on H25/1 anyone?

It's as flat as anything around these parts, so fixed is fine. Be careful at the Aldermaston roundabout going east (twice), as you'll have cars coming from your right more often than not. You go through a Pelican crossing 4 times, it's very rare to get stopped but if you RLJ, you will be DQed.

  • Start sheet for the national 100 is up, need to work out final hydration/nutrition plan, will be testing a few different bladders this week, think I'll stick to water, and rely on gels for energy. probably the zipvit ones a they have 50g+ of carbohydrate per gel so reduces total volume I need to carry/faff about with.

  • A zipvit gel every half hour has done me for all my 100s. Probably slightly too much but it's easy to remember half hours.

  • I really don't like gels. If I were to do a 100, would I just have to put up with it, or would Shot Blox be an adequate substitute?

  • You can eat whatever you want so long as you get the carbs in. Gels are just easy, shot bloks could be a bit tricky but would work.

  • If I were to do a 100, would I just have to put up with it

No, you could go old school and ask your team to hand you wafer cones filled with rice pudding :)

  • I did a 100 as my first open event, what are you waiting for? (Seriously there is nothing to be scared of, and they make a 50 seem raceable!)

as others have said you can eat what you want, some people stick to fluids, others use gels and some might even use the bars, shot blocks are a bit of a pain as you'll spend 5 minutes getting thorough one bar of them and not concentrating.

  • Do a proper old school 100 on a single water bottle and a mars bar. Worked for Cammish.

  • I've not done a 50 either, I think I will make a 50 then a 100 my next goals for the season. I should have made a target for a 10, I think I will try and get into the 21s by the end of the season too.

  • Good aims, although there aren't that many 100s left to enter, and the BDCA usually fills up...

My two seasons aims are a 19:xx 10 and a sub 4 100, the 19 suddenly felt a lot more achievable this weekend, the 100 seems like a tall task seeing my longest ride this year is 130k!

Anyone know what kind of time I might expect the V718 to close on for this year, I'm hoping that I'll now get a ride, but things seem to be moving on so fast at the moment perhaps I'm still too slow!

  • No way you won't go sub-4 in the national

  • don't underestimate my ability to underperform - see the running thread for how the London marathon went!

looking at the start sheet the course has changed quite a bit, and as a result there's now a fifth go at the Chawton stretch, should be nice!

  • Well done on your low 20 the other day. Screw the V718!

  • It's always been 5 laps no?
