Top day out on mtb in devil's punchbowl Surrey with mates. Properly pushed on up some challenging inclines and probably didn't do justice to the downhill single-track but definitely left our mark on the ales and snacks at The Barley Mow. Knackered. Scratched. Sunburnt. Starving. Smiling. On the train to Waterloo.

@Cycliste and I did the UNICEF Cycling for Children ride today. Unfortunate overtones of 'Scouting for Boys' in the name, but no doubt it's a lot clearer in Schweizerdeutsch. There are lots of different things to do, depending on age, fitness and ability, but we went for the biggest one, obviously, the 20km loop option. It's a 20km loop with 750m of climbing, and the idea is simply that you keep going round and round until you've had enough. If you do it 6 times, it's the same as climbing Mont Blanc in elevation gain. 12 laps, and it's the same as Everest. No-one managed 12 laps.
We managed 8 laps, which was enough to win @Cycliste the prize for the woman who rode furthest and climbed most. By a considerable margin, I'm happy to say, as the runner up had only done 6 laps. Apart from the 4am Swiss time (3am UK time) alarm call and the 5.20am start, it was all rather jolly.

We're visiting relatives on a farm and I recently obtained some thule roof racks, so I brought a bike along and managed a little one and a half hour loop around rural South Australia on the Wolverine. That said, some of the "roads" they have here were a bit more challenging that I thought.

Today's recovery ride featured nearly 1000m of climbing, followed by 3 bottles of wine. Then 20km smashing it alongside Lake Geneva. Now more beers. Life could be worse.

Welsh Dragon yesterday - longest ride to date and most hills climbed. Quite pleased to get round in reasonable shape; wind was interesting at times. I was glad I wasn't on deep crabons.
Good to see a real mix of riders out there, all seemingly having a good time. Pies and potatoes at the food stations were most welcome.

Attempted a London to Brighton and back at the weekend - went out too quick on the way there and only made it to East Grinstead before bailing.
God it was hot.

This weekend 30 years ago I took my new Ron Cooper out for its first ride (gatecrashing the London to Brighton bike ride.)
I celebrated the anniversary yesterday with a lovely 72 mile jaunt around the usual lanes (Farningham, Otford, Ide Hill, Toys Hill, Pilgrims Way, Westerham, Titsey Hill) in the company of a few running club mates, including Len here with his TJ Quick out-vintaging the Ron. Up the old school!

Not a weekend ride, but i got out and made the most of the solstice last night. 30 lovely miles around the flatter bits of Surrey. Highlight was the sunset blast down wisley airfield's old runway. Also gives the opportunity to share this insta friendly snap....

It's amazing how much Montreal looks like London, I almost feel as if I've been there.

Did 200k yesterday (longest ride to date).
More pleasingly was that I managed to take visit 7 counties in a circular route from my house (no out and back to tick any) felt like this was a pretty good county:km ratio, realised I lived in a good place in the country to do this and have had the route plotted since early spring, just been building up the fitness to actually do it so psyched it went fine (though not much left in the legs by then end).
Anyone got any improvements/want to guess the counties. I think it would be at least another 50k to get 8.

Finally joined a local cycling club having done a couple of their mid week evening rides. Today I went out for their Sunday social ride. A lot of the club had done the Runway Rumble on Friday - laps of a local airfield after the airfield shuts for the evening. As such today's ride was a flat loop followed by another loop taking in a couple of climbs.
It was awesome, weather was pleasantly warm without being excessive and we had about 10 mins of light drizzle. I was fine on the flat loop and did a few long turns at the front. 2nd half and I struggled going up hills. Am currently v v overweight and it was apparent as I felt like I was going backwards - though my descenders physique did help going downhill. They were a lovely bunch, chatty and friendly and the roads were stunning. Stroud to Slad was particularly picturesque. It was also interesting to see how local roads join up.
Will definitely do more of these in the future.

Your southern bit of that route is a part of my commute - there's a few short, sharp bits around eh ?
I'd have stayed the rest of the day if it was closer :( Still, can't argue with a pint and a half straight from the barrel for £3.50.
Fun fact: Kate's dad is providing two kittens for Grain's two pubs, in Ipswich and Norwich
