• A friend of mine had some Bola Pros given to him as a race set of wheels, carbon clinchers, and the rear one has delaminated - the top coat has bubbled and blistered. I was riding in the Peak District a couple of weeks ago and although the decent aren't long by Europes stamdards, theyre very steep and often little roads, meaning you're constantly on the brakes. I held my wheel at the bottom of a particularly steep decent (20-30%) and both the wheel and tyre were red hot, almost uncomfortable to hold! I was just on alu rims, but I'd have been really uncomfortable riding those decents with carbon clinchers having known two people with clinchers that have failed, one of which my Dads clincher exploding! Just food for thought...

  • Yeah, this is my fear. I'm not often in the moors but would rather not have to be thinking about my rims exploding constantly. Tubs seem like a better option for hills because the sidewall isn't under as much pressure, but anything getting that hot isn't going to be good for it. I know I should just get some aluminium rims, but where's the fun in that?

  • Ha, I'm in the same boat as you! Not sure I'm willing to risk money on an aliexpress job with the inconsistencies etc but a decent aluminium wheelset is £250-500 still, and not all black...

Check out Zuus wheels. They're around to £500 marker, UK based with a years warranty. No experience with performance though, so you'll have to do some digging
