Cheers. I think I tried the editing the build.prop one and that didn't work.
May have a go at the iptables (although last time I tried playing with that on Linux I failed miserably).

giffgaff have some budget phones - I've bought a few from them and they've been reasonable on price.
They have the G5 although not the G5+

Thanks for the input, and from @CanonAxe.
Three have exclusive on the Lenovo P2, and CarPhoneWhoreHouse claim the same for the G5+. so I guess users will be few.
I'm using a OnePlus X right now, and so both these new phones have the same camera and screen res as i'm used to. I'd just like to renew mine to have a phone under warranty - lest the worst should happen.
It would also be nice if I could find a phone as small as mine; I'd buy the same again if I could....

I can't seem to log into the pia app on my phone that's on 3. Can I get that changed?
-
• #18506
I think it's probably the adult filter or something.
I use the OpenVPN app rather than the PIA app as I have a few VPNs on my phone and that connects fine.

Thanks will get that.
Forgot how nice the screen on the Moto play is.

Sorry to be slow, how do you log in on open vpn, which import method?
-
• #18509
It's not very obvious, you need to go here and download the file and open it on your phone (it should associate with OpenVPN, if not click on the 3 dots menu, select import and Import profile from SD card)
https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/openvpn-iosThen enter your username and password from PIA
Thinking about it you probably won't be able to do that on 3, you'll need to be on wifi or another computer. I've attached the UK-London one which should get you started.

Android trainerroad. How can I make my Moto g use ant+ WITHOUT having to use a dongle?

If the battery has gone completely flat there is a way of "jump starting" the charge. It is not without risk but has worked for me on drill and phone batteries that would not charge.
This is to connect positive to positive and negative to negative from another similar battery voltage something like an 18650 battery or if you have a 6 volt battery charger use this.
You should make momentary contact only.
Try this absolutely at your own risk.

Typical new phone question....
The screen has cracked on my Moto X and the battery is getting worse. If it were one of them, I'd repair, but both has me looking for a new phone.
I'm thinking about the new one+ when it comes out, but I'm not sure I need that much power and rumours are it will be more expensive than previous ones.
I've been impressed with Mrs. Hugo7's old Moto Gs (G2 and G3) but both ended up showing their age, whereas mines OK... which puts me off getting a Moto G.
So any suggestions for androids that are;
- At least as good specs as a Moto X G2
- Will be cheap post new phones this summer
- Sub-£300
- Limited bloatwear (like Motorola for this)
- Duel sim / will work in the states.
Cheers.

Are they still using Windows 98?

Cheers though. It looks good, I'll add it to the short list.

I need a recommendation for a mid-class smartphone.
I have a HTC One Mini 2 which is perfect in size but abysmal in performance.
I use the phone for browsing (Chrome), Instant Messenging, Instagram and the odd Google-Maps route if driving somewhere remote.
The HTC routinely needs up to 30 seconds for an app change, blacks out and wont turn on again for minutes, etc. A nuisance.Any recommendations?
I dont need or want a 7" UHD screen or whatever. I'd like a pocket friendly phone, that performs nicely. -

Snapdragon 430 MSM8937 64-bit 8-core @ 1.4GHz
3GB ram, 32GB storage
5.2" screen, 1080p
3010mAh battery, Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 over USB C
Dual sim
Android 7.1.1, used to be Cyanogen, might be their own "almost-vanilla" now.£219 direct. Often available on Amazon with a screen replacement voucher for an extra £10.
(for comparison, the Moto-X 2nd gen has a Snapdragon 801, 4-core 2.5GHz, 2GB RAM, 2300mAh battery, 5.2" 1080p)

I'm also in the new phone market. Pretty similar criteria but battery life is a big plus and need a microsd slot. My current phone has a 3,630 mAh battery (Moto X Play) but it appears to be the case that over the course of a few years battery life gets considerably worse.
I'd be happy with this phone for another year or so but with the battery life back to how it used to be. Consensus nowadays though seems to be that replacing the battery doesn't make a difference, it's the increased processor drain from newer OS/apps, etc that is the problem (although if anyone has any suggests that this isn't the case I'm happy to listen).

I recently got a Samsung A5 (2017). Same from a 2nd gen Moto X (@hugo7) and it's quite a bit snappier. Better battery too.
Girlfriend has a Wileyfox Swift 2 (not the 2X) and it's nice, but it's let down by the screen/RAM. The 2X probably fixes those problems.

Ballz. I thought it just needed overriding or something.

I made it work with an Ant+ dongle and and OTG cable on a Moto G (Garmin Uploader, rather than Trainerroad, but same principle) - bit of a ballache to remember where I put them, but easier than a Windows computer just for Garmin nonsense.

Plz halp...
Nexus 5 with completely dead screen, got loads of stuff on there I wanna get off it, USB debugging turned off... How do I get that all onto my Mac? Struggling at the moment, can't get my computer to see the phone at all... I think the phone is on, it's warm and screen will occasionally light up...
I have a Moto G4+ and while it's not been bad (bought it to replace an HTC One m8 that I lost and wasn't insured), it does struggle sometimes with lots going on in the background and overheat can cause it to become over sensitive and menus go a bit haywire. Just have to stop using it for a bit.
TBH I wish I'd just shelled out extra for the One Plus 3T at the time.
Of course, the issues I mentioned above may well not affect the G5+ but I thought it's worth mentioning as I don't know how much will have changed...
