depends on the organiser though, I've done events this year where the hour is stipulated on the start sheet as a requirement to sign on an hour before your start time which in most cases isn't unreasonable...
Heard back from the organiser of the blazing saddles 50 that there were some places reserved fro the sussex vtta champs so I missed the cut with a 1:52:29, so much for getting to ride a fast 50 this year!
I would have said less than an hour to be honest. As the HQ isn't far from the start you could realistically get caught in traffic, arrive with 20 minutes to go and still make your start time.
I would wait at the HQ for confirmation of a ride. Much nicer than having to stand half way down a slip road for 2 1/2 hours.
