  • mid-range bikes for racing, winter road and possibly bike packing.. mud-guard mounts non-essential; am I missing anything obvious? Must have SRAM GXP 1x (BB30 can GTFO). Happy to sit around and wait for the 2017 sales to start.

Planet-X XLS Rival 1 - self build from bundle ~£1,200
    GT Grade Rival 1 - £1,270
    Viner Super Prestige Force 1 - £1,350
    Canyon Inflite 8.0 Rival 1 - £1,600

    Snooooze

Get yourself on the list for one of @coldharbour 's new Hartley / Talbot batch collabs.

  • I can do three of these events - @amey @Sparky.

  • Yeah. Alright daddy Warbucks.
That's 1300 quid before you throw a groupset and wheels at it.

  • Pffft stupid cyclocross bikes for paupers thread

  • in related news, dugast tubs are £54.99 at Hargroves...

  • Tubeless tyres. Wait. Comeback.
I need a pair. All-rounders racing and training.
    Please.

  • I've got some XGs tubeless - never fitted - if you are looking to buy a pair.

Racing Ralph if you are looking for recommendations - I never tried the XGs as the RRs were great until it gets real muddy.

  • Ask ten people and you'll get ten different answers.

I've given up on Michelin Mud IIs, whilst they are a great tyre for most conditions, they are too fragile and susceptible to sidewall cuts.

My current all rounder of choice is the Vittoria XM, which seems more robust with a vaguely similar tread pattern.

  • Yeah I realised the risk...
Xm is only 18 quid a tyre. We have a leader.

  • It's not like @andyp has been waiting....waiting.....waiting....BOOYA! #crossiscoming

  • Just got to get somewhere close to being race fit now...

  • I raced the season after Erin was born on a training regime based mainly on commuting.

I don't remember if I sucked or not though.

  • Sucking would be an improvement on my form. I dream of sucking. I get lapped by people who suck, sometimes twice.

Im off to comfort eat and think about training.

  • Thanks for posting that up!

Just fitted some Juin Tech R1's to the bike, seem well made for the price - Eager to get back to cross, missed the whole of last season

First race is going to hurt.

  • Tubs tubs tubs. Rim brakes.
For free. Come and get them from my house.and I'll make you a cup of tea.
    Look rhyming sales patter.

  • I rate Specialized tubeless tyres. Used a combo of the Tracers and the Terras last season with no punctures and only one burp despite low pressures.

Tracers are a good all-rounder, though will pack up if you hit proper mud.

WTB Cross Boss are great for riding/training on more technical terrain as well, with more volume than standard cross bikes. Durability a bit suspect though.

  • Summer Cross dates appeared here yet?

Round 1: Thu 20/07 - Leyton Jubilee Park
Round 2: Thu 27/07 - Frylands Scout Camp
Round 3: Thu 03/08 - Beckenham Place Park
    Round 4: Thu 10/08 - Herne Hill

We're co-hosting the first round. Can't promise the same ground conditions that made the race so great there in the winter, but we'll be trying to favour the proper cross riders by making you jump on and off your bike as much as possible.

I'm going to put together a calendar of races easily accessible by train from London too.

  • I'm onboard. Missed the last couple due to work commitments but I'll be at the rest of them. Bath CC on Kinesis CX.

  • Thanks Jon.
The XMs arrived today, I'll give them a go and see what I think. I had specialized tubs (NO REALLY, it's not like I'm trying to give them away or anything) for a bit last season and liked them. #discbrakesarentdeadformenow.
I've got a second set of wheels I could throw them on.
All depends if I can justify the outlay.....

  • I accidentally ordered a Superstar Components narrow-wide chainring (black, 34T) in 110BCD, 4-bolt asymmetric. Then realised I had old 105 cranks with 5 bolts and ordered the right one.

Anyone running new Shimano cranks and need this?

  • I've been wanting to try cross this winter, are tubs that much better than tubed clinchers? Is this due to being able to run low pressures?
My cross-check has wheels but they're heavy touring dynamo wheels so I could have it set up for commuting with them, and swap to cross tubs for when I brave racing?
Sticking point - I'm in Manchester
