Forked bonemeal and blood (ugh) into the apple tree soil today.
Forever in our gardens.

I made the mistake of doing that to two of my trees a year ago. My stupid dog thought there was something tasty in there and dug two huge holes. He was not popular.

Lols.
I have no dog.
🦊 might be a problem though...

Since the mid-1980s and especially the late-90s, there has been concern as to whether using bone meal for plants might be harmful, as inhaling the dust can cause a form of Mad Cow Disease in humans.

I knew Bill Clinton was on to something...

Its only too late planting bare root trees, absolutely fine if it was in a pot,

The bone meal = CJD thing seems to have little evidence:

I haven't checked for Fox holes yet. I can't bear it. Need a cup of tea first.
On the plus side, if it's been dug up I can dig a square hole next time, filled with rotting manure.
-
• #1865
What, you mean you didn't do a square hole this time?
Everyone knows you should do square holes otherwise you'll just get roots going round in circles until it dies.

Not really, it is an MM106 root stock Charles Ross' dessert apple.
Apparently, MM106 is the right root for espalliering.

• #1872
You may need two - a pollinator.

• #1873
Cool. Mrs c00ps was looking at similar. But I'll probably kill it.

It's easy, buy it now, travel back in time, dig a star shaped hole, fill it with rotting virgin carcases and live fish, plant the tree upside down, water it with dry blood no times per day, but only in the morning when the sun is setting.
Then the hard part of espalliering it begins.

This thread has made me smile. Thanks.
Yeah. If you can, get rid of the brown stuff and stop watering it. It's a succulent so the rule of them is never water u less they are crispy dry.
